[Bug 201839] Re: Update to 3.0 beta 4
It is as you thought. The statement about not being a LTS is only valid for Kubuntu because of the major version change in KDE. -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry, I meant to say that I thought the email was specific to KDE only -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 201839] Re: Update to 3.0 beta 4
Actually the email I saw about Hardy not being LTS was specifically for the KDE versions. But if Hardy GNOME isn't LTS it makes even less sense to put a beta in the final release. (Yes, I know they did it with Edgy and I had problems with it then, too.) I don't mind betas being in the repos, but Mozilla (like Ubuntu) is very specific that the testing versions of Fx3 are not for general use. With it being in the release we are ignoring their caveat and making people opt out, rather than opt in. Thus my issue with having any betya software as a default for the task in the release. -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hardy will not be LTS as stated about a month ago. I dont have email anymore. We had unstable firefox in Edgy, as firefox upgrades to beta/stable release it will be updated in Hardy as these are security fixes (most of them) final will be one for sure. -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 201839] Re: Update to 3.0 beta 4
@DJ_Peng Hardy will be a LTS, so there had to be made a decision, which version to include. A stable but soon outdated version of firefox, or a new version (and therefore upstream activly maintained version), that will be finished within the next few weeks (and these changes will be made available for hardy, even if the final firefox will be released after hardy). So I think, this was the better solution, because a lot of people would complain about hardy shipping an "outdated" browser and the trouble with backporting security-patches to the 2.x line, which will a few months after 3.0 release no longer be maintained upstream. -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 201839] Re: Update to 3.0 beta 4
I don't have any qualms about it being in the repos. I just wonder why it's the default browser when it's still in beta. But I guess I probably should have opened a new bug for that. -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Gert Kulyk, Well Firefox 3.0 beta 3 is in the repository. So I don't see why beta 4 shouldn't. -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 201839] Re: Update to 3.0 beta 4
Actually why is a beta browser included in Hardy at all? Firefox 3 won't be final when Hardy ships and every Firefox release announcement has a bold notice that it is a testing release and isn't designed for all users. A user can always make the decision to use the betas of Firefox 3 at any point during testing, yet once Hardy goes final users will loose the right to opt-in to the Firefox 3 beta process. There will still be changes between beta and gold versions of Firefox 3 and many addons will not be updated to work with Firefox 3 yet. Ubuntu users may tend to be techy-types, but there are too many changes in Fx3 to push it on people while it's still being worked on. -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug was fixed in the package firefox-3.0 - 3.0~b4+nobinonly-0ubuntu1, so marking as fix released. @Fred Do you think "I need it" is a valid argument for including new packages? :-) ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- Update to 3.0 beta 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
