Hey Simon, I don't want to compile my own kernel :-) I was thinking about this topic in hardy too because off the wlan driver (there was/is a patch available which makes the wlan working in kernel version 2.6.24-19). And I just found out that some parts of the power management are working (when I unplug the notebook, the battery state and levels are shown :-)). So the last problem which exists is hibernation which worked in hardy fine but here in intrepid it doesn't (I think the problem is the kernel or/and the noapic option) But the system is now perfectly setup beside the one problem. Hey Chief, You could try to compile the kernel version 2.6.25 (Version 2.6.26 should work too) by yourself and disable HighRes Timers and the Tickless feature (eighter in the .config or by passing nohz=off). It's really easy and on my computer everything works (including WLAN). I can also confirm the problem with the ubuntu intrpeid beta release on an HP/Compaq 6715s. The system is very very slow. Ubuntu Hardy with 2.6.24-19 kernel worked fine but the wlan wasn't working, so I installed intrepid where wlan works now but everything is to slow :-( I think I have to switch back to hardy an patch the wlan driver because intrepid is too slow. Running Intrepid alpha HP/Compaq 6715s with 2.6.27 now boots without extra kernel parameters. But the system is painfully slow - starting and logging in takes almost 15 minutes in total and the system is practically unusable after that. So I have to use 2.6.24 with nohz=off option instead. Hi, Leann, hi everyone. I've tried around a bit. I found out, that when booting with the option nohz=off my system works completely normal. Thus the problem is not apci, but the Tickless option. I also tried to compile the vanilla kernel (2.6.25-rc9). The same problem apperared. Thus this is not an ubuntu specific problem. If you like you can mark this bug as invalid or whatsoever. I am sorry for bothering you. It would however be great if this problem could be fixed, such that eighter the Tickless-option is automaticaly disabled or the probem is solved. This would make life easier for some people I think. I attached my system-information as requested by the policies. Hi Simon, Care to update to the latest 2.6.24-16 kernel as well as the latest linux-ubuntu-modules. Then can you boot with the 'quiet' and 'splash' options removed. Is anything interesting output to the screen. If so, care to take a digital photo and attach it to this bug report.
