Hello guys, Sorry for taking so long to come back to this bug. I have actually stopped using Kubuntu altogether. This font issue was bothering me, and then along came KDE4, which was an even bigger disappointment for many different reasons. I waited patiently for it to mature, but even the 4.1 release was barely usable. I just need my computer to work; I no longer have an interest in digging into all the anomalies, and finding and reporting bugs. I have done enough of that. Mid-December, I gave up on Kubuntu altogether. End of story. I don't think this should be assigned to DejaVu, but anyway. I think this is more a matter of the configuration of your X.org, and more specifically the dpi of your screen. Either the dpi was set wrongly before, or either it's set wrongly now. But changing dpi means different font sizes. If the size differs a lot between 10 and 11 points, then there's normally a font size of 10.5 points as an intermediate. Also, IIRC, GTK apps used a standard dpi of 96 and didn't look at the X configuration, and that has changed now. I'm a long-time Linux user, so bug-reporting isn't entirely new to me. However, in this particular case, I really do not know whether the problem is with Xorg, KDE, fontconfig, or some other package. That's why I went to the trouble of creating detailed screenshots, so that someone with more knowledge about the packages would be able to figure out where the problem was. I'm quite willing to add more information to this bug, in any way I can. So if you can tell me how to distinguish between Xorg, KDE, Gnome, fontconfig, and/or any other packages, I'll happily figure it out and append the information to this bug. PS. Because of this font issue, I have chosen to keep my system on Feisty Fawn (7.04) for now, even though it is no longer supported. Obviously, I'd like to upgrade, but I won't do that until I am sure that an upgraded system will not be a step backwards. I opened this bug way back in April, when I noticed this font issue with both 7.10 and 8.04. However, it seems no-one in the Ubuntu team has even looked at this bug. Is anyone ever going to come back to me to even acknowledge this bug? I am now testing Kubuntu 8.10 Beta, and I see the same problems. I can go from font size 9 to 10 to 11, and the increase in font size is uniform. From 11 to 12, it is suddenly huge. Unfortunately, size 12 is my preferred size, and the way it currently is, it is too big. Size 11 is too small. Why is the font suddenly becoming so big? Additionally, Firefox fonts look different from those in KDE apps. Under Feisty Fawn (7.04) all apps, KDE and GTK, appear uniform, with the same font size and style.
