2008-05-10 Thread Giovanni Lovato
According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReleaseSchedule, 8.04.1 will
be released on July 3rd. I wonder if the upgrade will be automatic or
we'll have to change release name on repositories...

Maik Rosenow wrote on 2008-04-26:

I installed them and the ati drivers (8.4) again, works like a charma now. So
check, whether all needed packages are installed.

I have exactly the same errors and warnings in my X log as described
here. Maik wrote that he found a missing package of kernel headers, but
I have found no such gap. Could we get a little more info on what
packages need to be installed (or, even better, which were missing from
your system, Maik)?

Bryce said that 8.04.1 will be released shortly and might include fglrx
8.5. Are we thinking that this problem is resolved in 8.5? If so, I
would certainly be willing to wait on it. I think I could live without
Compiz for a few days :P

Cheers -
Ian

[Bug 218345] Re: fglrx 8.4 released today. Any chance for hardy?

2008-04-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Unfortunately, we did not get 8.4 in for 8.04. Principally this was due
to the lateness of things, and the release team being uncomfortable
slotting in a new binary package at the last minute, but also because
there didn't seem to be many strong motivating factors (bugs fixed,
etc.)

8.04.1 is coming up, which presents another opportunity to upgrade fglrx
(8.5?) that we'll look into.

[Bug 218345] Re: fglrx 8.4 released today. Any chance for hardy?

2008-04-19 Thread The Fiddler
I've installed 8.4 without problems (X1950 Pro, x86_64). Compared to
8.3, it improves scrolling in Firefox and Opera significantly when using
Compiz. It also seems a little more stable under stress-testing
(creating and destroying 100 OpenGL contexts asynchronously would cause
the whole PC to lock up with 8.3. I haven't been able to reproduce the
problem with 8.4). No negative side effects observed until now, and no
new OpenGL extensions supported on 8.4.

For these reasons alone, fglrx 8.4 is a worthwhile update to Hardy.
Besides, the version number fits nicely with Ubuntu 8.04 ;-)

Keep in mind that we'll probably be stuck with these drivers for 6
months at least, so improved stability and performance are important
features.

I also installed these packages and notice no change in the version
number. However, everything continues to work, so I don't see any
problems with upgrading. And maybe it'll be worth it to get support for
the new xorg.conf in aticonfig.

[Bug 218345] Re: fglrx 8.4 released today. Any chance for hardy?

2008-04-19 Thread Michael Sebastian
Timo,

I have updated and tested the files from your ppa.
Nothing bad happened and I did not see any regressions.
Nothing good happened either.
For me the bugs are identical to 8.3 fglrx.
It doesn't look like ATI changed anything at all.

Strangely the driver version number in the X log has not changed.
(II) ATI Proprietary Linux Driver Version Identifier:8.47.3
Shouldn't that say 8.47.4 ?
I know I installed your package because the release identifier and build date
are different.

I also built and installed debs using the download from amd.
And I got exactly the same results and version/release numbers.

It seems as if ATI did not change anything in this release.
Even the bug they claimed to fix with amdcccle flickering is not fixed.

I'm not sure it's worth the trouble to get this into hardy.

But thanks anyway for your help.
-Mike
