It appears that this is fixed in Karmic. I just played around with language/locale settings of Ubuntu and OpenOffice in the Karmin Daily LiveCD and could not trigger this bug anymore. I have similar problems with Ubuntu 8.10 and OOo 2.4.1, where Ctrl+B justifies text instead of using bold letters. In System-Administration-Language Support I have English (United States) as the Default Language, but I use USA International (with dead keys) for my keyboard layout. When I run locale from the shell, I get en_US.UTF-8 in every line except the last one, which is empty (LC_ALL=). I don't know if I have the same bug or not... but in my case shortcuts are incorrect when I use them to manipulate text in a text box. For example, in Impress when I select text in a textbox and do Ctrl-B which is for bold face, the text gets justified - not changed to bold face. In similar fashion, Ctrl-A results in a 'Save As' pop up instead of selecting all the text. I tried André's suggestion but that did not work. Hello Chris, In my case, the OS is set on English/US, and local settings in Openoffice as well as keyboard are on Swiss-French. Most keyboard shortcuts are the same in English and Swiss-French configuration. Also, the keyboard is very similar to the US (it's qwertz instead of qwerty). The keyboard shortcuts are definitively Spanish or something like that... Hello, I can confirm this behaviour in OOo 3.0 / Xubuntu 8.10. The fix, in my case was to set the User interface language [Tools | Options... | Language settings | Languages] to English (USA) and then copy the OOo Writer shortcuts file to the OOo Impress shortcuts file: cp ~/.openoffice.org/3/user/config/soffice.cfg/modules/swriter/accelerator /en-US/current.xml ~/.openoffice.org/3/user/config/soffice.cfg/modules/simpress/accelerator /en-US/current.xml en-US, while not my default locale (en-GB is, which is close enough), was the only locale for which I had the accelerators file for OOo Writer. I would assume that for other locales (e.g., DE), it would simply be a case of, for example, 's/en-US/DE/g' in the above command line. Btw note that I have an Italian keyboard. When I open the customization windows, regardless of the locale, I see the Italian key names (for instance MAIUSC for shift, APRI for open, etc.) I do not know if there is some relation with the bug. Note that regardless from the fact that I have an Italian keyboard, I find the idea of translating shortcuts a poor one. I like my saving shortcut to be CTRL-S, my underline shortcut to be CTRL-U, and so on. I'm seeing the same behavior on Kubuntu hardy. Ctrl-A opens the Save as dialog instead of selecting all the text. Ctrl-S underlines selected text. Only happens in Imporess, not in Writer nor Calc. These strange settings are set in Tools | Customize | Keyboard. Hello! I'm very sorry for taking so long to respond. As you suggested, I renamed the ~/.openoffice.org2 directory, but the shortcuts don't work fine yet. It's very strange, because I've only seen this behavior in Impress, not in Writer, or Calc. Is there a file that stores all the key bindings for openoffice? Or a way to configure them? Hi! Well, I changed it under the Language options in Impress. There's an option to change the locale, but it seems it didn't change it... Also, if it is configured to en_US, the keyboard shortcuts that Impress reacts to are consistent with a spanish locale, not english. Is there another way to change the locale settings?
