[Bug 228168] Re: System freeze under heavy load

2009-09-03 Thread Philipp Kohlbecher
Hi Leann,

I just installed the karmic package linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic.
Booting it led to a blank screen, but that's probably because I forgot
to disable kernel modesetting. I'll try that again.

Also, I am attaching a syslog of a typical freeze. I don't see anything
unusual before the freeze, so I am only including the output of
Alt-SysRq-Q,W,M after/during the freeze. Hope this helps.

2009-09-01 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi Philipp,

Just curious if you'd be willing to test one of the newer 2.6.31 based
kernel's for Karmic or at the very least try the latest upstream
2.6.31-rc8 kernel?

[Bug 228168] Re: System freeze under heavy load

2009-08-26 Thread Philipp Kohlbecher
It still is unfortunately. It hadn't happened for a long time and then
another freeze occured a couple of days ago. I am not sure if the system
was under heavy load, though.

I am currently using a kernel.org kernel version 2.6.30.5.

If you want the kernel configuration or anything else, let me know.

To anyone else having this issue: Try Alt-SysRq-R,W,Q,T,M,S,E,I,U,B
(i.e., hold down Alt and SysRq and then press the letters in the given
order) and then post the syslog output. I'll try and remember that
myself next time...

[Bug 228168] Re: System freeze under heavy load

2009-07-13 Thread kernel-janitor
Hi xt28,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . Please then run following command
from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will
automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 228168

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 228168] Re: System freeze under heavy load

2009-06-09 Thread anton.pussep
I also experience frequent system freezes under heavy load. Even though
I am using Ubuntu 9.04 (amd64), I had the very same problems with Ubuntu
8.10 (i386), too.

The freezes are quite easy to reproduce when running BOINC or ripping a
DVD (for instance using k9copy).

[Bug 228168] Re: System freeze under heavy load

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.
