[Bug 228568] Re: guidance doesn't find any battery if battery is not present on startup

2010-05-31 Thread Jonathan Thomas
Guidance Power Manager has been removed from Kubuntu 10.04 and onwards
since it is unmaintained. Unfortunately, this means that no new features
or bugfixes will be made.

** Changed in: guidance-power-manager (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Won't Fix

[Bug 228568] Re: guidance doesn't find any battery if battery is not present on startup

2008-09-23 Thread MarkusP
I have a very similar problem: If the battery is not present at startup,
g-p-m does not detect if it is inserted. My system does not freeze. Only
an exit of g-p-m in the tray bar and a manual start in a console fixes
the problem.

But: This feature was available with Feisty, so it is quite annoying
that it no longer works with Hardy.

PS: Once a restart of g-p-m is done the battery can be removed and
readded without problems, even after a suspend oder hibernate.

Greetings

2008-05-12 Thread Luca Bonora
@ Awen Yes. You're right. Battery is not present phisically when booting. and
the situation is like my screenshot.
If I insert it later there are two consequences :
a - System doesn't freeze, but battery is not recognized. The situation is the
same of my screenshot and doesn't change.
b - System freezes.

2008-05-12 Thread awen
Thanks for clearing that up.

Then this is a wishlist bug. g-p-m doesn't actually handle battery
insertions.

The system freeze however has nothing to do with this or guidance-
powermanager. I will suggest you look in /var/log/syslog or some of the
other logs to see if you can find a cause for the freeze and report it
as a new bug.

2008-05-12 Thread Luca Bonora
Normally the system doesn't freeze, but if it will happen another time I will
notice you.
I want to specify also that if I insert the battery and remove A/C, the laptop
works without say battery's remaining time.
I hope you will solve this behaviour :)
Thank you

That is how it handles batteries as it is now. It doesn't really handle
removal/insertion of batteries that well.

This bug should be marked as wishlist.

[Bug 228568] Re: guidance doesn't find any battery if battery is not present on startup

2008-05-11 Thread Scott Kitterman
No. It should recognize the battery on startup.

Please run the power manager from a konsole shell.

1. Exit guidance-power-manager (right click on the icon and select quit).
2. Open a konsolse shell.
3. Type guidance-power-manager

If that produced any output, attach that to the bug.

For your initial startup errors, look in your user's .xsession-errors
for anything that appears power-manager, hal, or dbus related.

@Luca
Am I understanding right, that the battery is not present (eg. physically
removed) when booting?

And does it work if you are running on A/C when booting and the battery
is inserted?
