This can be fixed in userspace by unbinding and then re-binding the i8042 driver. This issue is also apparently fixed in 2.6.21 upstream, so it'd probably be cleaner to pull the commit from there if it can be found. I have thus confirmed it on nx7600, nx700, nx6320. You bring that to nw8440. However, I do know it isn't endemic to HPs as I have tested against several HP laptops where this isn't an issue. I installed the Feisty beta and was experiencing the same issue -- almost every time I resumed from sleep, my keyboard and mouse wouldn't work. I created the suspend and resume scripts myself and it completely fixed the problem. This is with my HP Compaq nw8440 laptop, so I suspect it's something endemic to HPs.
