Well, didn't I speak to soon I turns out, that adding the options snd-hda-intel model=3stack line, doesn't work like a charm. It only partially works. Indeed, it bring sound to the system, but only one sound and a hell of a lot of trouble. If you (say, for example) run any audial tab in Firefox (say YouTube) with and other audial program (say Amarok), the one that was started later, will get stuck. It is only uni-sound. Can't say why. Well, You'ld all be glad to know that the above fix (#22, previously used by me), works perfectly well with Ubuntu 9.04. [RESOLVED] Works like a charm. I own a lap-top Toshiba Satellite L40-13G (Short Model Name: PSL40E). For those of you with this notebook that have managed to get sound working using the 3stack option? Can you please verify that everything works if possible, i.e speakers, headphone out, line in/mic in/internal mic (if exists), and digital out (if exists)? There is already some quirk code present in alsa for this notebook, however it does not set the driver to use 3stack. I am a little hesitant to change it without verification that everything audio related works. Daniel, I'd be interested in your thoughts, as there is already a quirk in sound/pci/hda/patch_analog.c for this notebook. Just put unbuntu 8.1 intrepid on my box 1/15/09. Using a toshiba satellite p105. I have the exact same laptop and have just tried the 8.10 beta live CD. Again no sound, but I'm afraid I'm not sure which commands I should run to generate the sound logs. Since I am running from the live CD, the wireless doesn't work so I can't send error reports to the alsa website. The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains.
