[Bug 274234] Re: [intrepid] Xorg fails to start xserver-xorg-video-radeon (CD_INVALID_OPCODE)
This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-video-ati - 1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2.1 --- xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2.1) intrepid-proposed; urgency=low * Add 103_dithering_rework.patch: Complete, correct fix for dithering issues we'd initially worked around in patches 101 and 102. I can confirm it working for me, too. My card is: ATI Technologies Inc RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series] (It's the 690G onboard video, desktop version). It also seems faster for me too, at least in some flash games I tried. @ Артём Попов: Thanks for explaining that. [Bug 274234] Re: [intrepid] Xorg fails to start xserver-xorg-video-radeon (CD_INVALID_OPCODE)
2 Sorin, I guess not. We have: xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu3~nodither xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2.1 Thus, ~nodither is going to prevail, unless ubuntu3 without "~" is released (which will supercede the "~" AFAIK). You should manually choose the right version in Synaptic (Package->Specify version...) 2 Martin, my card is listed in the bug description and further comments. For the record, it is ATI Technologies Inc M76 [Radeon Mobility HD 2600 Series] (ChipID = 0x9581) This is certainly not a regression (at least on my hardware), since I could not even start Xorg with the previous driver version, as described in the first post as well. Guys, if the ~nodither deb above does *not* solve the issue for you, then you don't have this bug, but some other unrelated bug that just shares similar symptoms. I opened a thread on ubuntuforums.com about this issue (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=964587). In short: * the radeonhd drivers _are_ in the repository but _not_ on the CDs (I checked Kubuntu Alternate + Live) * the Live CD does not work at all * One is able to install the system from the Alternate, but you are not able to get to the desktop * The workaround involves putting the .deb on a pen-drive, mounting it from console, installing it with dpkg and editing xorg.conf with vi Summarized it should be impossible for 95 % of the standard users -- [intrepid] Xorg fails to start xserver-xorg-video-radeon (CD_INVALID_OPCODE) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hadrien Dussuel: Do you mean that radeonhd is not even in the repositories now, so you can't get it with apt-get? That would be really bad for us users, as we would have to download it manually from console (?) One other option is to install fglrx (I did), but for that I think you would have to manually edit sources.lst from console, so again not user friendly. I think this is a big issue, and it obviously affects quite a few people. Hi. While waiting for the fix, just a quick heads up: I have the same onboard AMD RS690 as Артём Попов. I've been having issues with: - Ubuntu Alpha 5 (I think) livecd - black screen at X start, I gave up then to wait for the beta - Ubuntu Beta x86 livecd - same thing - Kubuntu Beta x86 and x64 - could boot into it, but no text (I then figured out it was the huge fonts, actually) - Kubuntu x64 alternate - could install, but after login I got to splash screen, which was then covered by portions of huge letters. I tried getting the latest updates from console, an I did get some ati and radeon drivers among them. After that, I got to the LiveCD situation: I reached KDE desktop, but saw no text and it seemed to freeze when clicking anything. I finally made it work by using the radeonhd drivers, as suggested, but they seem a bit sluggish. Sorry for the long message. I hope it helps. Please let me know if you need any details. [Bug 274234] Re: [intrepid] Xorg fails to start xserver-xorg-video-radeon (CD_INVALID_OPCODE)
Here's another backtrace, now with the latest driver version. It looks like "gdb | tee" gives better output, than gdb's builtin logging... ** Attachment added: "gdb2.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18229261/gdb2.txt -- [intrepid] Xorg fails to start xserver-xorg-video-radeon (CD_INVALID_OPCODE) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The latest driver upgrade from yesterday (xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2)) does not fix this problem yet. -- [intrepid] Xorg fails to start xserver-xorg-video-radeon (CD_INVALID_OPCODE) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, thank Артём Попов for this link to this bug ! (excuse me but i don't know how to pronounce your name :$ :shame:) I've managed to start the desktop live cd by adding "Driver "radeonhd" in the xorg then by starting X "startx" ! So i didn't have the small popup that say to reconfigure xorg / xserver like in previous build ..(i used the 4th october one)... so as my linux knowledge are quite thin...i don't know how to report the xorg error! [Bug 274234] Re: [intrepid] Xorg fails to start xserver-xorg-video-radeon (CD_INVALID_OPCODE)
I'm not sure 472252 is related, since that involves a configuration where both -ati and -radeonhd are used simultaneously, which is quite different from your config. The next step for you is to collect a full backtrace. Directions for doing this are available at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing. That should give us a clearer view into where it's failing. -- [intrepid] Xorg fails to start xserver-xorg-video-radeon (CD_INVALID_OPCODE) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
