[Bug 277359] Re: MSN group chat makes CPU usage spike

2008-10-27 Thread SamuelWoods
The version affected was 2.4.0 in Hardy I believe. Usually MSN group
chat works fine but in very specific conditions it seems to send Pidgin
into an endless loop. Unfortunately I'm unable to perform a backtrace on
the issue as I can't easily reproduce the error and the software
required refuses to install correctly.

[Bug 277359] Re: MSN group chat makes CPU usage spike

2008-10-27 Thread Hew McLachlan
Pidgin 2.4.1 is what is included with Hardy, and what you experienced
the crash with. Pidgin 2.5 included a major update of the MSN protocol,
which is why it's worth testing with this version. Just a check if the
problem still occurs on Intrepid (pidgin 2.5.2) would be great. If you
are waiting until Intrepid is released, that is fine. If you're not
planning on upgrading, you could try using the version in hardy-
backports (pidgin 2.5.0).

Check if the problem is there on Intrepid first, and worry about getting
a backtrace later. You shouldn't have problems installing anything to
get a backtrace though, as all you need are debug symbols (pidgin-dbg)
and gdb.

MSN group chat works fine with minimal CPU usage for me. Is this still a
problem with Pidgin 2.5.2 in Intrepid?

2008-10-03 Thread Arnaud Blouin
Please try to obtain a backtrace (see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash) and attach the file to the bug
report.
This will greatly help in tracking down your problem.
