[Bug 281578] Re: virtual terminals missing after upating to kernel 2.6.27-7
Hi S., This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 281578 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. [Bug 281578] Re: virtual terminals missing after upating to kernel 2.6.27-7
I'm having a very similar issue. My consoles are blank. I am using an Intel Corporation 82G35 Express Integrated Graphics Controller. Read about a similar issue last year: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13196. The v86d solution did not work. Also tried modprobe vg16fb; modprobe vbcon from another suggestion. ** Attachment added: "xorg log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19941932/Xorg.0.log -- virtual terminals missing after upating to kernel 2.6.27-7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281578 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281578] Re: virtual terminals missing after upating to kernel 2.6.27-7
After running dmesg | grep uvesafb I got a complaint about v86d, so with sudo apt-get install v86d I installed the missing file, voila - it works. The hint came from Hypervisor from the ubuntuforums.org, he had the same problem. So the solution can set to solved, but I don't know, how it came to the missing file ... but that's maybe another problem. [Bug 281578] Re: virtual terminals missing after upating to kernel 2.6.27-7
** Description changed: 1) Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) Release: 8.10 2) I don't know - 3) 7 hours ago, before going to sleep I updated the system to kernel 2.6.27-7, now after booting up, I don't find my virtual terminals anymore, say, pressing [ctrl]-[alt]-[1] to [ctrl]-[alt]-[6] only ends up in a blinking cursor. I don't know, which automatically updated package caused this error, but I would be thankfully for any hint, how to get back the function fo virtual terminals. + 3) 7 hours ago, before going to sleep I updated the system to kernel 2.6.27-7, now after booting up, I don't find my virtual terminals anymore, say, pressing [ctrl]-[alt]-[f1] to [ctrl]-[alt]-[f6] only ends up in a blinking cursor. I don't know, which automatically updated package caused this error, but I would be thankfully for any hint, how to get back the function fo virtual terminals. 4) Instead of a virtual terminal, I only get blank black screens with a blinking white cursorline in the upper left corner.
