I'm using nvidia-glx-180 version 180.44-0ubuntu1, and having the same problem. How exactly am I to fix this? Do I need to add someone's personal repository, or is can someone just post a link to a .deb? Thanks for confirming, Rüdiger Kupper. I guess I may need to file a new bug report for this. I wasn't sure since the new driver isn't part of an official release yet. Personally, I don't mind None mode (Compiz disabled) but I worry that first-timers will be very turned off if they try Ubuntu (or any other Linux distro using this NVIDIA driver) and see this kind of scrolling. I installed 185.18.14 (using the link provided by Bryce Harrington
above) and have observed scrolling problems in the OpenOffice Word
Processor when Visual Effects are set to Normal (the default
setting). Setting Visual Effects to None works around the problem.
I wrote a small Python script to generate a test text file to load in
OpenOffice (redirect the script's stdout to something like lines.txt
and then open the file in the OpenOffice Word Processor):

After loading that text file in OpenOffice, I paged through the file
using the PgDn key on the keyboard. When the window was drawn
incorrectly, I captured it with gnome-screenshot. I am attaching some

Running Jaunty, 64bit, Nvidia 180.44 with compiz OpenOfficre controls and menu items occasionally disappear when moused over. Sometimes the window fails to refresh and I have to move it to see changes. This was a problem in intrepid after the 180.44 driver package was released. Downgrading to 17x might fix it, but I'd rather not. (is that even an option in jaunty?). I have the same issue with Jaunty and OpenOffice.org. I'm also using compiz and have a amd64 system. Not sure where the problem lies, but I get around it by turning off compiz, then it all works fine. I have a very similar problem, Open Office text descriptions on the tool bars and drop down menu's are absent. They do very briefly appear as you move the cursor over them, but all menu's are blank as well as the options settings box - if you can manage to get to it. I'm running intrepid on a Toshiba Satellite 2410-601 with the nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 96) [recommended]. If I switch off compiz, open office is fine, turn it back on, text disappears again. I answer to myself. I confirm what you said on my system too. I installed version 173 of nvidia driver and everything is fine now. It affects my system too. Intrepid Ibex with nvidia-drivers 177 (version reccomended by the system itself). I got some improvement customising the human theme: I set controls to human-clearlooks instead of human. Not a good solution... and still some text disappears in Openoffice as you can see in the attached picture.
