I used an ACPI script to turn off my laptop monitor when the lid is closed, but with the lid open it still shows the screen saver forever. On my desktop, the monitor goes blank but the backlight is still visible. I've upgraded to Karmic and yet this bug persists so I would suggest that either that status change was incorrect or this is not a duplicate of that bug. For me the screen blanks correctly for a day or so of uptime. After that it goes black according to the screensaver settings but the backlight remains on. Only a reboot resolves the issue. This issue was not present in Jaunty. I can confirm the same problem with Karmic Alpha6 + updates, running on a EEE 1000H netbook If screensaver(Black screen) and powermanager both is set to switch off the screen after for example 1 minute: - The screen fades out after exactly 1 min., then the backlight turns off but switch on again right after. If screensaver is set to 1 minute and powermanager to never: - The screen fades out after exactly 1 min., but the backlight stays on. (as expected) If screensaver is set to something higher than 1 min., but powermanager to 1 minute: (makes no sense to do, but describes the bug) - The backlight switch off after 100 secunds, but turns on right after. Doing that the screensaver is reset and never kicks in. I haven't tried anything other than fglrx as that was installed by the hardware drivers manager. Yes, that is exactly the behavior I see. The monitor turns off and then immediately goes on again with just a black screen and backlight (both intrepid and jaunty). No problem in Vista. KDE also failed to switch the monitor off. I also tried disabling PowerPlay in the Catalys software but that had no effect either. Possible sources of the bug could therefore be withing fglrx or the acpi support in the kernel. Same here for my Monitor. I have an Acer Aspire 5535 with an ATI HD3200. My monitor is set to sleep after 7 minutes on battery but only goes black and is backlit hence saving absolutely no power at all. Haven't tried in KDE yet to see if it works ok in that but will report back.
