[Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network
Hi Michael, Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 289898 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. [Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network
I am having the same (or similar) problem. I installed Jaunty a couple days ago, and it had been working just fine with the internet wired into the computer. I decided to try my wireless connection, and the computer locked up. Now the only way to boot into Ubuntu without the computer locking up is to turn off my router (I think it has set the wireless as the prefered network or something). Then, when I turn my router back on, the computer freezes up again. I have reproduced this bug many times, and the only way to turn on my router without the computer freezing up is to disable wireless in network-manager. The home network is a WPA2 network and only has a single access point. Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. -- [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network
I'd like to mention that Tuesday April 7th 12 noon (ish)US eastern time Problem still exists on most recent jaunty update unrelated: my system actually crashes unpredictably now even when I have my wireless card turned off. but I'm still capable of forcing a lock-up by connecting to this network. This bug appears to be either closely related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/336001 as my campus does have multiple WAP's for the network, or is a duplicate of it. If someone can please tell me the (exact, not a reference to a webpage that gives me general steps. hell, a script would be wonderful) steps to gather the CORRECT information for this bug, I will gather the information as soon as I know the steps. Please do not mark this as a duplicate until I can verify whether it is the same issue or not. -Mike -- [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network
Intrepid, before ANY upgrades happen (aside from turning on wireless and gfx) still experiences this problem. I've tried to reproduce it 50 times now, and have had a system-lockup several times, and the rest of them network manager says it can't connect to the network: reenter your stuff. I was not able to switch to a tty when the system locked up, as the lock up is so unpredictable now. I'm going to run the package updater now. -- [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network
I had my system wiped yesterday as part of scheduled maintenance, and am going to reinstall Intrepid tonight, and am considering continuing to do testing for jaunty. Previously I had been running a system that had been upgraded from Heron->Intrepid (first time problems showed up)->Jaunty. I hope that installing Intrepid fresh instead of doing a distribution upgrade from Heron will get different results from the wireless, and not result in system freezes. If I do get system freezes again. I will try different connection conditions. I am going to see if connecting to the network (using network manager in gnome) while currently viewing a tty (ctrl alt f1 or 2 or 3 or w/e) results in the whole system freezing, or only gnome. If it is ONLY gnome, I will try to get more information that way. -Mike -- [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My system also locks up when I try to connect to this network. Is there anything that could be done about this? It would be a HUGE help to get this figured out! [Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network
Alright, So its now been about 4 months since I started to experience this problem... and I'm feeling a little abandoned. I know that open source has no real guarantee of support... but you have to admit that it would be nice to have maybe one reply or so. Yea, I know that I'm just one guy with a couple of potentially imaginary friends... But I've gone through several re-installs, and lots and lots of trouble shooting to see if maybe the problem is the fault of some configuration option I chose. But honestly... If you could just point me in the right direction that would be awesome. But ignoring me just looks really bad on the community as a whole. -MIke -- [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network
Hi There, So, this problem still exists in the latest jaunty release. Several of my colleges are experiencing the same problem, and I've asked them to post comments here. Some feedback would be quite appreciate, we are all computer science students, and are eager to help resolve the problem for everyone. -Mike -- [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network
HI folks, I have still yet to hear from anyone about this issue. I know that closed source drivers are not supportable by the community, but as i've already said, this issue only started affecting me when i upgraded from hardy to intrepid. I am fairly certain that that upgrade did not include any driver packages which leads me to believe that the regression happened elsewhere. Could someone please point me in the right direction to track down this problem? I would really appreciate a reply, I have no idea where to start looking on this. -Mike ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
