[Bug 305506] Re: The sound is choppy and slow ubuntu 8.10
hi! I installed 8.10 on a Toshiba Equim and the sound is distorted(choppy). I searched around, tried a few things, but with no success. Here is some information I got by typing some commands in the terminal window: ~ List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC861 Analog [ALC861 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 6: Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB4x0 High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device ff10 Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16 Memory at c000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K] Capabilities: access denied Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel So it finds the sound card, installs it, but sound does not come out properly when playing games or trying to listen to music or even when I test the sound card through the 'Sound' dialogue (SystemPreferencesSound). Se P.S. of this post for detailed laptop configuration. Please help! Thank you very much! Vasilis P.S. Could you describe please what sound settings exactly were wrong and how you solved the problem? And did the problem occur after a pulseaudio update? -- The sound is choppy and slow ubuntu 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305506 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 305506] Re: The sound is choppy and slow ubuntu 8.10
Sorry I'm not sure about the pulseaudio update because I just set it to do all the auto updates recomended after installing from the alternate download CD. The settings changes which seemed to sort it for five minits were system/preferences/sound, and I thought it may have been set for another sound card than my Toshiba equium has--? I rebooted into the old XP to make sure it wasn't an electronic hardware problem(it sounded a bit lke dying capacitors); all the sound worked OK there. I installed the Eee Ubuntu and the sound was OK there.am re- installed the 8.10 and it was still the same Dr Who soundscape. I've re-re-instaled from the USB start disc I made after the first install-everything is fine now.-!??? Steve.
