[Bug 327993] Re: ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels
Dan O'Huiginn, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Intrepid reached EOL on April 30, 2010. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Tags added: intrepid kernel-sound needs-upstream-testing ** Attachment removed: output of lspci -vv; cat /proc/asound/cards; cat /proc/interrupts https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/327993/+attachment/512446/+files/sound-micczu.zip ** Attachment removed: Choppy sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/327993/+attachment/598823/+files/choppy.mp3 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete ** Tags added: regression-release -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327993 Title: ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/327993/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 327993] Re: ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels
Now i have Ubuntu Karmic Koala (something between beta na RC) and the bug is still here:( If you pause mplayer for several minutes, during it playing flashing videos on youtube... and if you then unpause the mplayer video the sound is broken. I use only alsa. -- ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327993 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 327993] Re: ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels
This bug doesn't seem to happen anymore in the latest alphas (5 and 6, didn't test the previous ones) of Karmic, at least for me. Maybe we should consider it fixed? It is much worse now - I think it is because last kernel update? If I watch movie, after minutes/half an hour the sound breaks. [Bug 327993] Re: ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels
As far as I know there is no workarounds. Try installing Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron LTS (that's what I had to do), it doesn't have all the bleeding edge features, but will be supported until April 2010. -- ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327993 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I installed in jaunty the kernel from hardy and now it works. I was able to convince my father about the advantages of ubuntu but now the sound is not working as expected. Is there anything I can do? [Bug 327993] Re: ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels
I am attaching choppy sound. It happened while I was playing music in Amarok and since this moment, the sound is screwed everywhere. But, in mplayer (or totem) I can play sounds OK, but if I pause it, instead of silence I heard this choppy sound... strange. Now I tried Kernel 2.6.30-rc7 (from PPA), after 2 days again the same error. One more thing: sometimes mplayer can play any sound OK (after the error occurs), meanwhile others programs (mocp, banshee) have choppy sound. -- ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327993 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I had the same experience. However, using an older kernel with 8.04 worked. [Bug 327993] Re: ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels
Same here (ATI IXP AC97). Sound didn't work properly since 8.04, so I had to stuck to Hardy. The sound breaks at a random moment of time and remains broken until a reboot. Sometimes it doesn't work from the beginning. Sometimes it works for nearly an hour, then breaks. It doesn't depend on what I do at all. Even if my computer is just idle, it still breaks after some time. -- ATI IXP AC97: sound regression between 2.6.24-16 and 2.6.27-11 kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327993 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The same here (IXP SB400 AC'97 Audio Controller).
