[Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on my PCs

2009-03-20 Thread gerard
Bingo Peter, after entering the 2 commands you gave me, it works.

By the way in order not to trouble the test, I rebooted after the trial
I did just before.

So I started with a frozen mouse, "jumping again on the screen" after
what you recommended to do

I keep these 2 commands in mind, very useful.

I'm gone take a look at the bug I'm a duplication of, in order to
understand better the situation. Hope this will be solved before the
final release. Anyway, Thx for your concern, have a nice day

[Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on my PCs

2009-03-20 Thread gerard
OK Peter, I'll do what you ask for, but before, here is the result of an
interesting test I did.

Reminder : KVM = Keyboard Video Mouse switch
KVM = PS2 plug
Mouse1 (faulty mouse) = USB plug
in between = USB/PS2 adaptor

What I did:
I replaced mouse 1 by mouse 2 (PS2 mouse)
connected directly to KVM

and it WORKs, but for any reason Ctrl Alt F1 to F6 doesn't work, just a
black screen, no prompt, just Ctrl Alt F7 returns me to graphic. So I
cannot send you the result of dmesg regarding this successful trial

BUT that brings a very interesting point

When I plug again the faulty mouse it works now. In other words, when
the mouse has been recognized once, then the combination USB + adaptor
is also recognized.

I wanted to send you that just before going thru your tests that I'll do
right away. The corresponding dmesg is in attachment

Please take a look also at bug #318722. You might want to attach the
mouse directly on the USB (no PS/2) and report what is going on.

Thank you!

[Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on my PCs

2009-03-20 Thread Peter Antoniac
Can you try this in console (CTRL-ALT-F1):
sudo rmmod psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps

If it works after, then, this is a dup of bug #335297...

There has been some work in the kernel related to mouse handling, so,
the problem is a recursion from 2.6.28 update that comes in Jaunty. Let
me know after the rmmod how it behaves.

Thank you again, and don't worry, this will get fixed...

[Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on my PCs

2009-03-19 Thread gerard
OK Peter, as far as I understand, you just need the last page, fine, I
can do it.

I took 3 screenshots attached

1- is the origin: mouse plugged-in
2- mouse unplugged
3- mouse plugged-in again

It does not correspond to what you expected
the mouse is apparently recognized as PS2 (USB/PS2 adaptor)
looks like sync problem???

Hope that helps, anyway I'm ready to try whatever you want, otherwise
I'll have to bypass this version and I'll be very sad!!

Have a nice day

2009-03-19 Thread Peter Antoniac

You don't need the mouse to work on a console. Use the keyboard there...

Well, all I am interested is to see if your kernel/hardware sees the mouse,
something like:
usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usbcore: registered new interface driver hiddev
input: Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse as
/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb1/1-1/1-1:1.0/input/input13
input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on
usb-:00:1d.0-1
usbcore: registered new interface driver usbhid
usbhid: v2.6:USB HID core driver

Than I know where to look next...

Just the changes when you plug the mouse...

I only need the end :D

Thank you again for the help...

[Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on my PCs

2009-03-19 Thread gerard
Hi Peter, I'm of course willing to help, but how if my mouse doesn't
work?

What I can do:
leave the mouse plugged
Ctrl Alt F1 --> console --> I can run dmesg but how can I send you the file
same for unplug

Do you mean I need to read thru the file and find something related to
the mouse?

another point: on 8.10 I typed "dmesg | more" to have time reading
but on 9.04 "more" has no effect, I reach the end of the file immediately!!

Any advice about all that to go further on, Thx

[Bug 342156] Re: Jaunty : frozen mouse on my PCs

2009-03-19 Thread Peter Antoniac
Thank you for your help and patience. Can you guys play with the usb
mouses, plug them in and out and tell me the output of dmesg at the end
of the cycle? Meaning, you unplug the mouse, check dmesg in the console
then, plug the mouse and again check dmesg and report if it was
detected.

Also, as it is becoming more obvious that this is related to hardware,
please include the information requested at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingHardwareDetection as separate
attachments, to make sure that we have all the data on this report.

Thanks again!
