[Bug 345631] Re: No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698
This bug was filed against a series that is no longer supported and so is being marked as Won't Fix. If this issue still exists in a supported series, please file a new bug. This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345631 Title: No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/345631/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Dr.Suave, thanks for your update. I'll inquire with our London folks to see if one of them has some time to look at the machine. As a side-note, I realise that this bug would much easier to fix if the computer in question were actually seen by someone with the ability to fix it - if there's anyone in London, UK who has the ability and is willing to do this, I'd be very happy to show them the problem. -- No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 345631] Re: No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698
Hi Jeremy - I'm very sorry I couldn't get back to you on this sooner, I've been writing a university dissertation and haven't had time for anything else (although doing this didn't take very long in the end). Anyway, as I write this apport-collect is running. As for the state of sound on Lucid Lynx, I'm afraid the situation is worse than it ever has been for me - the volume control simply says "---" - and when I try to open Sound Preferences a message comes up saying "Waiting for sound system to respond". Naturally, nothing comes out of the speakers. I've marker this bug as regressive in apport-collect due to the fact that it's gotten worse with the new release - but the bug has always been present. I'll now see if I can test the upstream kernel. -- No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 345631] Re: No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I'm using the SigmaTel ID 7698 soundcard, and can't get any sound at all. This Bug appears to be Linux wide - have tested with Ubuntu 8.10, Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha 6, Linux Mint 6, Fedora 10, OpenSUSE 11.1 and Mandriva 2009 - none have worked with this card. I've followed all community documentation and forum tutorials that I can find and haven't been able to get it to work. Basically, from the live disk onwards, I don't get any sound at all. No system sounds, media sounds, nothing! I've reconfigured everything I've even seen a hint of need for reconfiguration, but to no avail. The one success story I've found is with this patch: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=41385#c1 (Patch is attached to the first comment in the link). It would be great if this soundcard was supported in Jackalope! I'm happy to test the patch in Jackalope and Ibex if someone tells me how to apply the patch (I'm afraid I have no idea how to do it). A forum post I made about the bug can be found here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6835616#post6835616 If any more info is needed, please don't hesitate to tell me! Thanks! [Bug 345631] Re: No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698
Hi Dr.Suave, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid. If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 345631 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. [Bug 345631] Re: No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698
On a fresh install of Jaunty Alpha 6, with this .deb (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~dtchen/) applied I now have sound. However, It only comes out of my on board laptop speakers. I've tried changing the model number in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and most that I've tried (ref, dell-m42, dell-m43, dell-m44, dell-d21) all work with the on board speakers, but not the headphone jack (except the dell-m43 and ref, which don't work at all). When I use the dell-d21 setting if I plug my speakers in I'm sure I can hear them playing for a second, but then cut out. None of the model numbers seem to give me a headphone jack switch in the volume control alsa mixer. -- No sound with SigmaTel ID 7698 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
