[Bug 365321] Re: iwlagn - Wireless network disconnects and won't reconnect without reboot
I experience the same problem with my Ubuntu install. My system specs: HP dv5t laptop with Intel 5100 network card Ubuntu Karmic Rebooting or reloading the network modules does the trick for me but it still is very irritating... Curiously, hard stop and start of wireless radio receiver (via the touch button on top of the keyboard) does not work. When I swipe that button, instead of the light turning red (which should be the case), it starts to blink! Looking into that, which I will later, should help pinpoint the nature of the problem. [Bug 365321] Re: iwlagn - Wireless network disconnects and won't reconnect without reboot
It's the same problem with ath5k and seem that happen with many others wireless cards. Isn't a Ubuntu problem, in Archlinux i have the problem too. The problem is easily reproducible: You connect to a network, then disconnect, and finally, try to connecting again. Wicd just say: "Unable to obtain IP Address" There is a workaround (rough-and-ready) if you reload the kernel module of the wireless interface with rmmod (or modprobe -r, it's the same) and then modprobe. This is the reason because many of you have to reboot the computer, but just need reload the module. In the bugtracker of Archlinux (http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18011) they say that is a kernel problem, i don't know. But that i know is that other networks manager don't have this problem just with wicd. ** Also affects: linux (Arch Linux) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Arch Linux) Status: New => Confirmed -- iwlagn - Wireless network disconnects and won't reconnect without reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 365321] Re: iwlagn - Wireless network disconnects and won't reconnect without reboot
Hello all, I'm using Jaunty on Samsung NC10 and I installed linux-backport-modules- jaunty. Now I've been using Ubuntu for few days w/o major networking problems. WPA2 occassionally fails with some routers, but that's an another issue. I'd like to add that before installing backport modules I had to boot to Win XP in order to get the network adapter functional again. I don't know the actual reason for that, but it seems to be related in some power saving function because it usually occurred after an S3 sleep state. I don't know if the linux-backport-modules-jaunty resolved this issue for me, but it's surely looking good right now . [Bug 365321] Re: iwlagn - Wireless network disconnects and won't reconnect without reboot
If you could also test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine this issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. If the issue remains with the upstream kernel, please be sure to also run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs needs-upstream-testing -- iwlagn - Wireless network disconnects and won't reconnect without reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

more behavioral information: 1. first i start the computer, 2. second, wireless connects 3. use internet, high data usage 4. random amount of time, wireless cuts out 5. attempt to re-connect causes authentication dialog to pop up. 6. re typing the key details results in behavior which seems from outward appearances the same as if i had typed in the wrong authentication key. No amount of attempts allows me to reconnect. Only a reboot fixes it. -- iwlagn - Wireless network disconnects and won't reconnect without reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365321 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't have vmware installed, so it has obviously nothing to do with that. Just happens in the blue. Or rather, when i have had lots of network traffic. i.e. using bittorrent.
