[Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2011-04-27 Thread bugbot
This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.

I have upgraded to amd64 9.10.

The artifacts, which never really disappeared, are now more common and
somewhat noisome.

They occur after the mouse is passed from one screen to another.

Attached are the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and output of "sudo lspci -vvnn >
lspci.log"

[Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2009-07-21 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Well the "artifacts" have ceased to become a problem. Several things
have happened.

1) I patched glib2.0 to resolve the 2nd monitor operational problems.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+question/77380
2) I discovered the obscure and onerous setting that was crashing compiz.
https://answers.launchpad.net/compizconfig-settings-manager/+question/77591
3) I have enabled compiz and am using the emerald window decorator.

I think the bug might be with the GTK window decorator.

In any case, I'm happy.

[Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2009-05-29 Thread keepitsimpleengr
My comment on 2009-05-13 is incorrect.

The screen garbage appears after invoking "nautilus-open-terminal" on
screen 2 of 2.

This is repeatable.

Right clicking on screen 2 of 2 opens the context menu. Selecting "Open
in terminal" will open the terminal window.

After this, the artifacts will appear on both screens when resizing
windows.

This is a workaround for gnome bug 580103
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=580103

This is probably related to Ubuntu 346964

[Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2009-05-13 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Aaron…

I use the Chameleon-large at 32 pixels.

Additional Information:

I use compiz, but only on screen 1 of 2 (:0.0) because with 9.04 compiz will
not composite scree 2 (:0.1) Compiz regularly stops compositing, and I
restart it with the command:
compiz --display :0.0 --only-current-screen --replace &
from a terminal.

The screen garbage occurs after compiz is "restarted"

2009-05-13 Thread Aaron Plattner
How large is your cursor? This looks like typical corruption that is
caused by a fundamental incompatibility between GLX and the X server's
software cursor code. If it's larger than 64x64, please try using a
smaller cursor. It doesn't look that big from the screenshot, but it
could have a lot of blank space in it.

That's not a gnome-desktop bug. I'm reassigning it to your video driver
for now. Please could you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and also
attach the output of "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci.log"

Thanks

[Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2009-05-09 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Hi Ben…

Does the 'garbage' disappear after a while? If so - how long?
⋯The garbage will disappear if you move a window over them.

And also - is this with all applications or just opera?
⋯generally with all windows, but may not happen.

And finally - Do you have desktop effects enabled?
⋯I have a dual monitor setup running separate x screens. There are many
problems with Gnome 2.26.0 on the second screen. I also run compiz only on
display :0.0. (compiz --display :0.0 --only-current-screen --replace &) Also
from time to time compiz will stop compositing requiring a restart. Running it
on :0.1 has proved to be impossible probably because of Gnome 2.26 problems.
All these problems did not occur in Ububtu 8.10 and Gnome 2.22 amd64.

I run an nvidia 8800 GTX to two monitors, 2560x1600 & 1440x900, nvidia
driver is 180.44, X.org 1.6.0, attached is xorg.conf

:~$ apt-cache policy compiz
compiz:
  Installed: 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
  Candidate: 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8
  Version table:
 *** 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8 0
500 cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release amd64 (20090420.1)
jaunty/main Packages
500 http://mirrors.us.kernel.org jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Not a problem to lend a hand in resolving this minor problem, seems as
if there are some major ones going without attention.

[Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2009-05-09 Thread Ben Crisford
Hey :),

Don't suppose you could tell us a few more details?

Does the 'garbage' disappear after a while? If so - how long?
And also - is this with all applications or just opera?
And finally - Do you have desktop effects enabled?

It would be great if you could add them to the description.

Sorry for asking awkward questions, i'm just trying to help your bug be
fixed as quickly and as easily as possible. And thanks for the bug
report!

Cheers,
Ben
