I have upgraded to amd64 9.10. The artifacts, which never really disappeared, are now more common and somewhat noisome. They occur after the mouse is passed from one screen to another. Well the "artifacts" have ceased to become a problem. Several things have happened. 1) I patched glib2.0 to resolve the 2nd monitor operational problems. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+question/77380 2) I discovered the obscure and onerous setting that was crashing compiz. https://answers.launchpad.net/compizconfig-settings-manager/+question/77591 3) I have enabled compiz and am using the emerald window decorator. I think the bug might be with the GTK window decorator. My comment on 2009-05-13 is incorrect. The screen garbage appears after invoking "nautilus-open-terminal" on screen 2 of 2. This is repeatable. Right clicking on screen 2 of 2 opens the context menu. Selecting "Open in terminal" will open the terminal window. After this, the artifacts will appear on both screens when resizing windows. Aaron… I use the Chameleon-large at 32 pixels. Additional Information: I use compiz, but only on screen 1 of 2 (:0.0) because with 9.04 compiz will not composite scree 2 (:0.1) Compiz regularly stops compositing, and I restart it with the command: compiz --display :0.0 --only-current-screen --replace & from a terminal. How large is your cursor? This looks like typical corruption that is caused by a fundamental incompatibility between GLX and the X server's software cursor code. If it's larger than 64x64, please try using a smaller cursor. Hi Ben… Does the 'garbage' disappear after a while? If so - how long? ⋯The garbage will disappear if you move a window over them. And also - is this with all applications or just opera? ⋯generally with all windows, but may not happen. And finally - Do you have desktop effects enabled? ⋯I have a dual monitor setup running separate x screens. There are many problems with Gnome 2.26.0 on the second screen. I also run compiz only on display :0.0. (compiz --display :0.0 --only-current-screen --replace &) Also from time to time compiz will stop compositing requiring a restart. Running it on :0.1 has proved to be impossible probably because of Gnome 2.26 problems. All these problems did not occur in Ububtu 8.10 and Gnome 2.22 amd64.
