[Bug 397670] Re: apt-get upgrade crashes repeatedly

2010-07-14 Thread Joel Kreager
This was a problem only with my first install of 9.04 on my netbook.
Subsequently, I managed to get that version patched up to a workable
form, (I forget exactly how). 9.10 and 10.04 installed and ran without
any substantial problems. I only experienced this with netbook remix,
not with the generic i386 install on my desktop. I would close the bug
-- I don't see how to do this myself.

[Bug 397670] Re: apt-get upgrade crashes repeatedly

2009-07-10 Thread Dougie Richardson
Thanks for reporting this, from the logs it appears that you hit Ctrl+C
while gnome-applets-data was being installed so I'm reassigning it to
that package.

You could attempt to install only the troublesome package:

sudo apt-get install gnome-applets-data

To check this package is actually stalling but I suspect it simply
needed more time.

** Package changed: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) = gnome-applets (Ubuntu)

Re: [Bug 397670] Re: apt-get upgrade crashes repeatedly

2009-07-10 Thread Joel Kreager

I'll attempt to re-install it. I am fairly certain that it hung, as I looked
at it, saw that it stopped, said ok wait, and walked away for several minutes
before hitting ctrlc. I need to re-install or upgrade a bunch of gnome libs
anyway to solve another problem I seem to be having. When I open OpenOffice
and begin typing, it does not advance to the next line, but rather jumps back
to the start of the line, and pushes the text along. I am thinking the
installed version of OOfice must be linked to different versions of the gnome
or gtk libs than are actually installed.
I am not sure my apt-get install actually installed anything, though it did try
to pull in a lot of gnome libs.

Thanks for getting back to me.

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

I installed ubuntu 9.04 netbook and decided to run apt-get
update and apt-get upgrade.  (I was having problems
with various hardware - asus eeepc 1005ha).  Download
of the various packages proceeded without errors, but when
they were unpacked the process hung repeatedly.  I
tried waiting for two or three minutes and then typed
ctrlc.  This unpacked a couple of more
packages, and then locked again.  Unfortunately, I
don't remember the first package.  Scrollkeeper created
a large number of errors, evidently it did not like the xml
 it was seeing.
