Have it working now. Using Crunchbang as the base install and never
realized they have rpm and python-rpm installed by default so i removed
it when i saw it in the software sources.

Reinstalled both packages and now it works fine.

Ok so i the reason it wasnt finding anything is because Packagekit wasnt
set to use Smart in /etc/PackageKit/PackageKit.conf.

This should really be documented in the FAQ or something. I only picked
up on this after researching in Google and it popped from a old openSUSE
or Mandriva forum thread.

It seems like Update System is working. Havent got any errors but i also
dont think there have been any updates. Im using Jaunty at the moment to
test this.

As for Add/Remove, the lists are there on the left hand side and everything
appears correct until i try to search for a package.
Then i get this error:

An internal system error has occurred:

Error Type:

I have no idea why its asking for 'rpm' stuff?

I think this is now a smart issue, not a duplicate.

[Bug 397684] Re: Smart backend to Packagekit fails to see Ubuntu's repos.

2009-07-10 Thread Slug71
** Description changed:

I have Packagekit installed and removed the apt backend to it and installed
the smartpm backend.
If i open PK add/remove and try using the search i get an error "The search
could not be completed" underneath that is a message "Running the transaction
failed" and under details is "cannot start daemon: cannot GetTid: Launch helper
exited with unknown return code 1"

Under the 'System' tab i only have 'Quit'.
Under the 'Filters' tab i have nothing.

Software Sources only has a unusable checkbox with a 'greyed' out line
that says "Getting software source list not supported by backend.

Using Software Update, it just says checking for updates no matter how
- long you leave it. There is now progressbar or nothing else happening
+ long you leave it. There is no progressbar or nothing else happening
  within the GUI.
