I have the same problem with HP OfficeJet 6500 709n, HPLIP-3.14.10 Public Release, LinuxMint 17 My duplexing option is fully greyed out and i cannot select it anymore. And i selected Autoduplex size A4 so i cant select long edge or short edge But not print a double side. I am seeing the exact same issue with an OfficeJet 6500a Plus e710n-z on Ubuntu 12.10 using HPLIP 3.13.4 I fixed it by running system-config-printer from the CLI, deleting all instances of the printer (looks like the HPLIP may have created duplicates) and adding it back. Then going into the setting of the printer (Right-click, Properties) Selecting Installable Options and checking Duplexer Installed. Ok all that, log out and in again. Same problem here with HP LaserJet 4350 (I know it's a different printer but this is the most related post I've found and it solved my problem). I am suffering from the same problem. My Photosmart C6200 series has duplexer installed, but it's not possible to turn it on in Installable Options, controls are simply not accessible. It's still possible to use duplexer in openoffice if manually select Device → Duplex as Installed and also select Paper Size as A4 Borderless/AutoDuplex. This affects me too, with an HP Officejet j6400, duplexer unit is installed. Like Gustav Svensson, duplex printing works correctly when using: lpr -o sides=two-sided-long-edge , but his suggested fix of editing the PPD file has not worked for me. Running Ubuntu 12.04, hplip version 3.12.6. The Duplexer Installed option is set to yes, but greyed out in the HP Device manager. When attempting to print, there's no two-sided option available in the print dialog, and an exclamation mark appears with the text Some of the settings in the dialog conflict. This disappears when selecting One sided printing from the layout drop-down. With lpr -o sides=two-sided-long-edge document.pdf it works. Gustav, this job has Duplex=None in its job options, needing that from the application single-sided printing was requested. Are you sure that you have set double-sided printing in the application's printing dialog? Does double-sided printing work for you from other applications? Which application did you use? I am also affected by this bug using version hplip 3.11.10 and Officejet_Pro_8500_A910. It is not possible to choose Two Sided in the printer dialog box. Under Installable Options in hp-toolbox the option Duplexer Installed is set to On but greyed out. Changing Double-Sided Printing to Short Edge or Long Edge doesn't help. Also, the Page Size A4 AutoDuplex is not available. Hello, sorry but my printer (HP PSC 1510) does not work properly with double-sided. It prints every page on a new sheet of paper, in sequence (1, 2, 3, ...) and not the odd pages first and the even pages after, as usual in Windows. vonibenz, the duplex option in HPLIP is only for printers with a real duplex unit, not for manual duplex, which means printing odd pages first, turning the deck of printed paper over and printing the even pages on the back sides. NO SRIKANTH, what you wrote is NOT true! The bug is NOT resolved yet, at least on printers like mine! In the meantime I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 and HPLIP 3.11.7 (the very last, one week ago) BUT the Double Sided Printing is NOT WORKING at all, on my H.P. PSC 1510, in spite of the setting Long Edge (Standard) and Duplexer Installed on (grey). In WINDOWS XP, on the contrary, everything is good. Same for me on Ubuntu 10.10 with a HP Color Laser CP4520 an HPLIP 3.10.2. Under Installable Options I have a Duplexer Installed (On/Off - radio buttons) Option, but it's grayed out. Under Print Settings I have an option Double-Sided Printing that I can set to Long Edge (Standard) - doesn't make it print double sided.
