[Bug 432988] Re: asus x59gl reboots on intensive opengl

2009-10-11 Thread Oliver Marks
seems to have improved with latest karmic updates, but still happens
after a long time or if you block up the fan to speed it up, again does
not happen in windows, so seems like it something todo with temprature
control on this laptop.

[Bug 432988] Re: asus x59gl reboots on intensive opengl

2009-10-03 Thread Oliver Marks
okay i have been through ubuntu 8.10 9.04 and 9.10 live cds i have done
a minimal install added the nvidia drivers and tried a few 3d games all
have resulted in a reboot the wierd thing is that i am sure i have
played games on this machine previously in linux, and windows xp works
perfectly.

I have one other idea to try out and thats cleaning the fan, perhaps
linux is not handling the cooling of the gpu quite as well as windows or
something.

else i am open to any more suggestions on things to try.

[Bug 432988] Re: asus x59gl reboots on intensive opengl

2009-09-29 Thread Oliver Marks
okay, i have tried mainline kernel 2.6.28 2.6.29 2.6.30 and 2.6.31 and
all have hit the same problem with the reboots after launching a few
opengl apps.

I am going to go download the latest karmic and the old jaunty and try
both these and see if i have any better luck.

[Bug 432988] Re: asus x59gl reboots on intensive opengl

2009-09-29 Thread Bryan Wu
Can you confirm this issue exists with the most recent Karmic Koala 9.10
Alpha release? ISO CD images are available at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . If the issue remains with
Karmic it would be great to then also test the latest upstream mainline
kernel available. This will allow additional upstream developers to
examine this issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Thanks in advance.

[Bug 432988] Re: asus x59gl reboots on intensive opengl

2009-09-19 Thread Oliver Marks
** Description changed:

not sure on what the cause is or which package to report against.

Basically my laptop works fine under normal usage but when playing
opengl games it reboots, on intensive games its like 30 seconds on less
intensive i may get a couple of minutes.

I have tried different kernel versions and nvidia drivers 170 185 and
190 but still have the same result with a reboot, also tried disabling
acpi on boot but that did not help either.

I can use some 3d compiz for example seems to work fine, but the 3d
  screensavers did cause a reboot.

Also i have ruled out hardware problem, i have two identical machine
here happens on both, and they work fine in windows xp.

I also tried using cpuburn to stress out the cpu but that does not cause
  reboots

if you need some log files let me know which ones, but some info below.
