*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 480929 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480929 Same problem here on newest Lucid Ubuntu, and in Lucid with 2.6.35 PPA kernel. Also on Dell Mini 9. This problem sounds very similar to the one listed here - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/480929 - both problems occur when headphone is plugged in on a Dell Mini 9. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 480929 [9.10]Audio hiss coming from netbook speakers when using headphones ** Tags added: apport-collected -- static in speakers when headphones are plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460105 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 460105] Re: static in speakers when headphones are plugged in
Hi Jonne, Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p alsa-base 460105 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. @Hash-bang See http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~crimsun/pulseaudio/karmic/annotate/head%3A/debian/patches/0090-use-volume-ignore-for-analog-output.patch (NOTE: this patch is *not* applied for 9.10!) for an example of how and where to use volume = ignore. [Bug 460105] Re: static in speakers when headphones are plugged in
Could you go into a little more detail on what you mean in the above posting since I too have the same problem. volume = ignore, where exactly? I couldn't find any example on your blog about this. 'see /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf' and do what? power_save_controller=N by default (on my Dell Mini 9, matching the above spec) but 'Y' also makes no difference. Is there some other setting that needs changing too? -- static in speakers when headphones are plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460105 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 460105] Re: static in speakers when headphones are plugged in
For the first, turn down the volume of one or more mixer elements. You may need to use volume = ignore. See my blog for more info. For the second, see /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. Re: [Bug 460105] Re: static in speakers when headphones are plugged in
There are a couple issues being confused here. The first that you describe is caused by amps being overdriven. The second is caused by power_save_controller. Is this also the case with linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic installed (and after a reboot)?
