[Bug 464874] Re: [i965GM] Slow and tearing scrolling with composite enabled
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Hello, I found this problem again in Karmic. These bug was marked as invalid (by me). I am reporting it again with newest drivers (2.9.0) and newest mesa 7.6.0. Kernel what I am using is 2.6.31-14. If i have compiz or native mesa composite enabled then scrolling became "tearing" slow and annoying (in Firefox, OpenOffice apps etc.) - try page http://www.webupd8.org/ (try it with / without composite enabled on Intel GM965)... with metacity all works fine. There was workaround with swapbuffers, but it doesn't actually works in Karmic. Sorry for my English. [Bug 464874] Re: [i965GM] Slow and tearing scrolling with composite enabled
Thanks Michal. Too much trouble for me to compile my own kernel though. Classic Ubuntu: cram alpha-quality software into a release, break something that used to work, then make us wait 6 months for a fix. Every time this happens I feel like switching to Windows that much more. -- [i965GM] Slow and tearing scrolling with composite enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 464874] Re: [i965GM] Slow and tearing scrolling with composite enabled
OK, guys. I found it was fixed in unstable repositories. And in mainline kernel. If you want test it, add in sources.list these lines: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu karmic main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu karmic main then install newest updates: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and download new kernel and install it or compile your: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.33-rc2/ then restart. I hope this will work much better.

I'm noticing this problem too. Mine is also the Intel 965GM Chipset on a Dell XPS M1330. I can't watch any HD videos on Youtube, Vimeo, or Totem. This was fixed up until the final release. It wasn't doing this in Alpha/Beta/RC.
This bug is also affecting me. I have an Intel GM965 on a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. As time goes on, desktop performance degrades terribly. I get tearing when scrolling in applications like Firefox and Gedit, window effects like minimize/maximize and fading, etc. are choppy and slow, and even input like key presses and mouse clicks are delayed. It's frustrating. I've never submitted a bug report before, so I don't know what kind of info to attach, but let me know and I'll include anything I can provide to get this fixed. -- [i965GM] Slow and tearing scrolling with composite enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
