[Bug 48148] Re: Failure to install bootloader on complicated PowerPC

2006-09-14 Thread James Legg
I had the same problem. However, before I installed, I had to use GNU parted to
partition my drive as both the Gnome Partition Editor and the installer claimed
my drive was empty (it had an OS X installation on it). Now the installer and
Gnome partition editor see my partitions, but these errors occur.
The partition that OS X is installed to is HFS+ rather than HFS, I think this
may be the Apple_Bootstrap partition mentioned in the first error message, so
should I have installed OS X differently?

As for the 'Known Ubiquity issues in Ubuntu 6.06 LTS' link given
earlier, I didn't set a boot strap partition on the mount points page,
and I still get the errors mentioned above.

Here is the 'installer crashed' report (/var/log/syslog was empty):
Traceback (most recent call last):

I tried again on my internal drive, which gave me the same error. I
think this might be a different bug, however; I didn't hear anything
about a "NewWorld boot partition".

[Bug 48148] Re: Failure to install bootloader on complicated PowerPC

2006-07-19 Thread Chad Groft
I think I had the same problem. I was doing a fresh install on a
PowerBook G4 15" Titanium. I have a external drive (a 320 GB OWC
Neptune) originally with 4 partitions. During the install I deleted the
last partition (about 120 GB), then asked the installer to use the
largest continuous free block on that disk. The installer mostly seemed
to work, but was unable to install the bootloader. I then got the
"Installer crashed" dialog, which asked me to post the following:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 130, in ?
install(sys.argv[1])
File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 55, in install
ret = wizard.run()
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkui.py", line 264,
in run
self.progress_loop()
  File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkui.py", line 538,
in progress_loop
raise RuntimeError, ("Install failed with exit code %s; see "
RuntimeError: Install failed with exit code 1; see /var/log/installer/syslog
and /var/log/syslog

I'll try again and see what happens. I've attached
/var/log/installer/syslog; the rest are coming.
