[Bug 49318] Re: Cannot load fglrx driver for ATI Radeon 9000

2007-01-14 Thread Rouben
Never mind, it would appear that fglrx drivers aren't designed to
autoload the kernel module like the nvidia drivers. Since the libGL
problem seems to have been addressed in Edgy, I am going to mark this
bug as fixed.

[Bug 49318] Re: Cannot load fglrx driver for ATI Radeon 9000

2006-12-11 Thread Rouben
Actually, I meant to report this issue myself, because I consistently
found issues with it:

a) The fglrx kernel module is not loaded properly on bootup (has to be added to
/etc/modules manually).
b) The /usr/lib/libGL.so is usually symlinked to the wrong library (MESA rather
than ATI).

I'm not too sure about (b), since on a recent Edgy install I only had to
do (a) to get proper 3D support, but only after a reboot (loading the
fglrx module dymnamically didn't work for some weird reason; perhaps
conflict with the open source ati/radeon driver? I don't know).

Can someone confirm is the linux-restricted-modules package actually
does set up the module auto-loading properly? If not, perhaps that
should be added to the postinstall script and the end-user be prompted
to reboot?

[Bug 49318] Re: Cannot load fglrx driver for ATI Radeon 9000

2006-06-14 Thread Ivan Jekic
I found it!

It was the "libGl.so.1.2" that was causing the mess!! One person
suggested in ubuntu forums to copy old libGl instead of current one. Now
I get:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/lib$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9000 DDR Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3.1072 (X4.3.0-8.25.18)

I guess that file/driver is buggy, with broken ATI9000 support...

2006-06-14 Thread Ivan Jekic
Thanks ashrack, I tried, but unfortunately, it didn't help. :(
I can get the system working with "fglrx" added in xorg.conf as a device,
however, I have no 3D support.

fglrxinfo:
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.4.1)

I also noticed that when I'm running a "fglrx" driver, I cannot move a mouse in
Enigma game. Everything is ok when "ati" or "radeon" is used instead.

I really don't think this should have been rejected, since the driver
package description Ivan is referring to clearly states that his card IS
supported. Please look at this again.
