[Bug 507507] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f867a2cc
Bernhard, I've only tried 32bit. Frankly, I was surprised to hear this is 64 bit hardware, but you are right, it is. Still, what benefits do you expect? I'm not very familiar with 64 bit vs. 32 bit, but a bit of research seems to indicate you aren't likely to see an improvement. Please try the 32 bit version, but if you insist on 64 bit, please open a separate ticket for it. The OP was using 32 bit. To wrap up, it seems that most people get a working system without the problems initially described if they update the BIOS and run the daily UNR lucid live CD. Please report back if that is not the case. Wifi is a separate issue, let's deal with the keyboard problems and kernel oopses only in this ticket. Missing support for the new wifi chipset has already been reported upstream, patch is available and reported as working, so we can expect a working kernel soon. Lucid kernel may have to be patched from upstream, though. Once it becomes clear if that is indeed the case, I will open a separate ticket. -- BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f867a2cc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507507 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, Karmic 64bit here on a 1005P. As for keyboard and touchpad: even after a bios upgrade, they strangely and reproducibly only work if the laptop was separated from power when switched on... -- BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f867a2cc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507507 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

aperez, good to hear (although I would be hesitant to install some random wifi driver off the net, the homepage is not official Atheros!) Re: [Bug 507507] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f867a2cc
Some news. I installed distro from lucid-netbook-i386.iso on my 1005p. Keyboard/pointer are OK, no kernels ooops but wifi still doesn't work. After lspci my wifi card is, 02.00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. Devide 002c (rev 10) but no trace of it in dmesg. A minor issue now is that no info about battery state appears. Hi, I installed 9.10-remix, keyboard blocks, kernel paging oops apeared & no wifi. In live mode no problems with the keyboard, but kernel paging problems & no wifi still there. I installed 9.10-desktop. The same problems appeared. Starting in recovery mode I have terminal access, that is keyboard works, but kernel oops & no wifi continue. I upgrade to kernel version 2.6.31-17 with wireless-backport package and still no wifi and kernel oops still there. If at this moment I try to start gdm, X starts but keyboard & pointer blocks. I installed 9.4-remix. Keyboard is OK but no wifi or ethernet. I will try the distros you propose ... Bests, Alberto. Re: [Bug 507507] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f867a2cc
I have the 1005PEB. I'm running live CD. The keyboard doesn't even work on it. I have it hooked to an external DVD drive. It is quite unpleasant, tough to navigate, I noticed also the built in Cam doesn't work also. Ethernet seems to work but not WiFi. ~CP Hendsbee - Original Message From: Rolf Leggewie To: threedz...@yahoo.com Sent: Thu, January 28, 2010 1:45:05 PM Subject: [Bug 507507] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f867a2cc FWIW, my 1005p doesn't seem to have this problem with either the lucid and karmic netbook remix live CD. [Bug 507507] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f867a2cc
Setting to confirmed status due to numerous reports. I will try to test karmic on my 1005P soon. For those affected, please try to describe more about when this error happens. It seems that for many the keyboard stops working after the error has occured? Is this only in karmic? Please test http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook-remix/daily- live/current/lucid-netbook-i386.metalink (download with aria2c and write to a USB stick with unetbootin). Would be interesting to know if lucid is affected as well. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f867a2cc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507507 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
