hi

the behaviour you described could be related to the ibm cdrom drive.
on ibm x3650 the serveraid bootable cds suffer from the same problem:
the system boots, you can configure everything but when it wants to
update the serveraid firmware it tells you "couldnt read image
files" . if you burn the cd with 2x speed or use an external cdrom
everything works as expected. maybe give it a try.

best regards
Jan Brinkmann

And also I want to state that:
Ubuntu is #1 Linux distribution in Desktop market.
I also want to see it in #1 in server market.

I am using ubuntu desktop for 6 years, without any windows in my desktop
computers, notebooks and so on.

So, Server side should be supported well, i think. I am happy with your reply.
this was just a note.

[Bug 509102] Re: dont detect cdrom in IBM HS21, ubuntu server 9.10

2010-01-22 Thread bvidinli_ehcp
sory, I thought I provided required info. (we got used to use problem
reporter, which does include all info... but not in this case)

i use ubuntu 9.10 amd64
server install cd

the cd does boot, start to install, but when detecting cdrom in installer, it
cannot detect.
I think the problem is not burning speed. if it were so, it would detect cdrom,
but could not read. but in my case, cdrom cannot be detected. if you insist to
burn it with 2x, i will give a try.

- yes kvm is attached to right place. I am sure. and booting from that
cd shows that.

- i will try remote console mode.
thanks.

[Bug 509102] Re: dont detect cdrom in IBM HS21, ubuntu server 9.10

2010-01-22 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thank you very much for reporting your problems. This helps to improve
the quality of Ubuntu. However, there are a few informations needed:

- Which version do you use: Ubuntu 9.10 i386 or amd64?
- Which Install CD do you use?: alternate, server, desktop?

I've just tested this in an Bladecenter E. I can boot the CD itself. However,
there is a limitation with IBM CD-ROM drives which I've seen:
- A possible reason (IBM related) could be that you've burned the CD with
speed >2x . Newer IBM CD-ROM drives seem to have problems . There are other
IBMs in the xseries which suffer from that problem, too. Try to burn the image
with 2x.

- Another idea: Is the KVM attached to the right blade?

An ultimate way to find out if the ISO itself is the problem would it be
to use the 'remote console' . You can add the ISO as 'remote drive'. If
that works ok, it's probably an issue which isn't related to the install
cds.
