[Bug 52752] Re: Kernel hangs during boot sequence since Revision 2.6.15-25 on Thinkpad T60

2006-07-22 Thread aileen
This may be related:

When I boot into a the newly-installed 2.6.15-26-686 kernel on my T60,
the system hangs for 1 min 30 seconds at "Mounting root filesystem..."
and then finishes booting normally. Booting into the older 2.6.15-25-386
kernel (note the different arch.) does not show this behavior on the
same machine.

$ sudo mkinitramfs -k -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-26-686 2.6.15-26-686
yields:
Working files in /tmp/mkinitramfs_spJGBj and overlay in
tmp/mkinitramfs-OL_PdfFTj

But does not improve boot time.

Ok, you are right. I was unpatient. After a 2 minutes delay, the system
finally starts, using the new kernel.

I took my Camera and made a Picture of the Kernel Messages before it's
falling asleep:

Thank you very much for your help!!

** Description changed:

  Since Kernel revision 2.6.15-25 the boot sequence hangs after a few
  seconds on my Thinkpad T60. Kernel 2.6.15-23 works fine.

  Unfortunately, this is before any Kernellog or Syslog is beeing
  generated. On the last lines it is saying something about IRQ 169 and
  hangs.

  What information can I provide you to solve this problem?

[Bug 52752] Re: Kernel hangs during boot sequence since Revision 2.6.15-25 on Thinkpad T60

2006-07-12 Thread Christian Kirbach
I can confirm this on a Siemens Lifebook E8020. linux-
image-2.6.15-26-686 is also affected.

I copied the kernel messages:

ICH6: IDE controller ...
<...>
SCSI subsystem initialised
ACPI: bus type scsi registered
ACPI: PCI interrupt :00:1f.2[B] -> GSI 19 -> IRC 217.
<**DELAY FOR 2 MINUTES**, it used to be only seconds with 2.6.15-23>

as far as I can guess something changed for the IDE driver that now causes a 2
minute delay. note PCI interrupt :00:1f.2[B] in the kernel messages!
