since jockey version 0.5.8-0ubuntu7 both available NVidia drivers (current and 173) are activated, but not in use. I have never installed any NVidia driver. (it shows the same when running the live cd). confirm the issue (HP 8730w). Lucid beta2. This problem did not happen in alpha1, x11 was broken on alpha2, it did not happen on beta1 now shows-up on beta2... Remove both drivers, then activate current, then reboot... to have it fixed. Some tweaks and comments: first i've uninstalled some packages: plymouth-x11, most of themes, nouveau and nvidia-current, then reboot. Of course booting fail to command line, no surprise indeed.
