[Bug 550477] Re: 1920 x 1080 HD displays outside frame of screen.

2010-06-13 Thread mausahid
I have the same problem with ubuntu lucid and samsung screen. when using hdmi,
resolution goes up to 1920x1080 but desktop menus are out of the screen frames.
more than this, if using vga cable, only resolution possible is now
1360x768,and some other below, leaving black lines on the sides of the screen,
as if 4/3. with ubuntu karmic i had higher resolutions available also with vga
cable.

2010-04-23 Thread Bryce Harrington

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against

This sounds like just a modeline issue, and so perhaps is a kernel issue
since this uses KMS now.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Fantastic that HD display and sound is working in Lucid. Kudos all
  round.

On this display 1360x768 is working fine, but the windows on 1920x1080
mode are too big for the screen, so the title bar and the scroll bar are
  outside the display area.

Don't know if this is the display driver or the preferences.

Re: [Bug 550477] Re: 1920 x 1080 HD displays outside frame of screen.

2010-03-28 Thread Neil Wilson
That's the thing though. The screen is a 1080p screen.
(Or it's a limitation of the video card - which can't drive the higher
setting. I can't tell which).

The resolution selector doesn't state whether the resolution is 1080i
or 1080p, and perhaps it should. See bug 550486 about the failure to
identify the screen correctly.

[Bug 550477] Re: 1920 x 1080 HD displays outside frame of screen.

2010-03-28 Thread Robert Hooker
Usually these problems are specific to the TV you are using. When you
try to use a 1920x1080i mode the TV is probably enabling overscan
automatically because it is a TV resolution and not enabling it for the
1360x768p native resolution. Your TV should have an option in the menus
to disable overscan to work around it, and if not I would recommend
installing the proprietary drivers for more fine tuned resolution
control because the catalyst control center should have an option to
compensate for overscan somewhere in the menus. 1360x768 is the
preferred mode to use though if the alternative is 1920x1080i and not
1920x1080p, it is the native resolution of your screen and will be
sharper.
