I am having the same problems as Peter. I am however remoting into my Ubuntu workstation. I think if I do it directly it all works. At least the last time I tried it did. [Bug 550838] Re: Unable to mount Not Authorized
I am having this problem with a fresh install of 10.04, fully updated. This problem ALWAYS occurs. Rebooting doesn't fix it. I have all permissions set in my account. I can't mount anything or reboot from the GUI, I have to su and do it from the command line. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550838 Title: Unable to mount Not Authorized -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550838] Re: Unable to mount Not Authorized
I also have made sure I am allowed to mount FUSE file systems in the permissions dialog. This not authorized error appears at random times. It will never clear on its own without a reboot. After rebooting, I may or may not be able to auto-mount an external USB drive. I can always use a mount command as root and that succeeds. So this appears to be a problem with the auto-mounter process, whatever that is, and permissions. This is in Ubuntu 10.04. I have seen recommendations to update to the latest Ubuntu. Shouldn't 10.04 be made to work properly, since it is an LTS version? More information: (1) The problem happens for me in both GNOME and LXDE desktops. (2) An Ubuntu Forums recommendation was to install package pysdm to manually mount the USB drives. That works. What doesn't work is automatic mount for the user when plugging in a USB device--not authorized pops up. (3) This problem has been occurring for me for at least 6 months, and doesn't seem to be solved by any package updates I download. (I keep my system current with updates.) I was previously running Ubuntu 9.04 and never had any issues at all with auto-mount permission problems. -- Unable to mount Not Authorized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 550838] Re: Unable to mount Not Authorized
As you can tell, I just ran the appport-collect command mentioned above. While I am not the reported of this bug, it is affecting me. FWIW, this just started happening within the past two months (as that is the last time I tried and succeeded to mount this drive; an SD memory card inserted into a card reader). I could probably tell you what packages I have updated since then if anyone knows of a quick way to view that. -- Unable to mount Not Authorized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550838 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550838] Re: Unable to mount Not Authorized
Hi Terry, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 550838 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message.
