[Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze with 3d game or screensaver

2016-02-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Yuroker, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases, Lucid Desktop reached EOL on
May 9, 2013.

Is this reproducible on a supported release?

[Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze

2011-10-20 Thread Harry Sufehmi
"My guess is there is a bug in the video driver that shows when the 3d
section of the video card is used."

Yup, you are 100% correct there.

I've forgotten about this bug - until you commented & I got the
notification about it. I suffered from similar problem to you. But I
managed to resolve it by installing the xorg-edgers PPA :

https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers

You might wish to try the driver first : https://launchpad.net/~xorg-
edgers/+archive/drivers-only

(I went for the whole setup though - Acer laptop here with Intel i915
chip)

Another safer bet compared to the whole xorg-edgers is probably the
Ubuntu-X PPA : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

Hope it helps someone else. Good luck.

[Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze

2011-10-20 Thread Marcello Romani
Seems the 3d screensaver was to blame. After configuring the system to
not launch any screensaver but just put the monitor to sleep the system
didn't show the problem anymore.

My guess is there is a bug in the video driver that shows when the 3d
section of the video card is used.

2011-04-27 Thread bugbot
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  Hello, dear developers.
I've got the next bug. In both Ubuntu versions 9.10 and 10.04 i use Core i3 +
Intel H57 with integrated Graphics card.
My system freezes sometimes, I tracked only one condition (when I'm playing
3d or 2d game) but there were some others, not even connected with 3d (surfing
e.g.) when it freezes, I still can connect to my computer through the ssh, and
http server on it is still working, but screen, and mouse, and KB, and
everything on the screen is frozen.
I was trying "service gdm stop" - kinda killed process, but no any changes on
the screen, chrt 1 - no respond, should use ctrl+c, and still no effect to the
screen. That's all.

I have new hardware, can you explain is this only ubuntu's bug? or it's
better for me to change my HW? Maybe any solutions..?

[Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze

2011-03-22 Thread Joshua
I'm also seeing the freeze and the errors posted by Marcello Romani.

I have Intel DH57JG board with i5 650 processor. Nothing else on the
board (using the integrated graphics).

Using Ubuntu 10.10 and 2.6.35-28-generic.

This issue progressed for me to the point where it would occur very
frequently and even when only booted into BIOS. Intel suspected a board
problem and replaced it but I'm still seeing the issue, though not as
frequently with the new board. I've only had the replacement about a
month so time will tell if the performance degrades again. I may also
looking into trying a different processor.

[Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze

2011-03-15 Thread Marcello Romani
I have seen this bug several times on a brand new Core i3 540 HP system.

I see messages like these in the dmesg log:

[239983.083606] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...
GPU hung
[239983.083616] render error detected, EIR: 0x
[239983.083639] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns
-5 (awaiting 64239677 at 64239676)

When the GPU "hangs" I can still CTRL-ALT-F1 and login. Sometimes a
simple service gdm restart is enough to get me back to work, sometimes I
have to hard-reset the machine.

DIM data about the machine follows:

Can the updated intel-relevant code from the newer kernel be backported

Upgrading to the newest intel driver 2.11 and libdrm will not fix this

[Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze

2010-05-20 Thread Matt Hanyok
I've seen the occasional freeze since assembling a Clarkdale system -
Core i3-530, Intel DH57JG, 2x2GB G.Skill ECO 1.35 DDR3 memory - and I've
noticed that it doesn't seem to apply the visual effects I select,
either.

I figured this was a deficiency in the older driver that shipped with
10.4, so I hooked up to the xorg-edgers PPA and ran an update. Problem
still existed as of about 20 minutes ago. Haven't yet tried the kernel
that Lars just linked, though disabling the effects entirely does seem
to prevent it from happening (at least, I've never had it happen with
them disabled).

2010-04-19 Thread Ivan A. Kosarev
Seems like disabling the visual effects (in the Appearance Preferences
window) makes the system stable so it's most likely that the issue
relates to how Ubuntu utilises 3D facilities of the core.

Could anyone please confirm that:
1) The issue only appear with ASUS motherboards and
2) Disabling the visual effects frees the system from the freezes?

Thanks.

I experience exactly the same on Ubuntu 9.10 with the Core i3 540
processor on the P7H55-M PRO motherboard -- all are new, recently bought
parts.

I can confirm that it looks so that only the interface things freeze.
One time such a freeze happened during a copying of a large amount of
files. Despite I wasn't able to get reaction from my keyboard (not even
from the Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or Ctrl+Alt+Del), mouse or anything, I saw
that the HD activity led continues to flick just like during the
copying. After reboot I found that all the files were copied
successfully so I think the base parts of the system continue to work
correctly.

A weird and annoying bug that prevents from using Ubuntu.
