[Bug 571543] Re: Milter and Freshclam configurations buggy in Lucid

2010-05-10 Thread Scott Kitterman
I think it's OK the way it is. clamd takes a lot longer to restart in
0.96 than it did in 0.95, so we changed the default to false (so the
clamd would restart every 6 hours and not hourly). Part of what was
bugged in the current packages was we didn't carry that through
correctly.

I had another look at the code on the flight and I think what's there is
correct. I will test more today.

[Bug 571543] Re: Milter and Freshclam configurations buggy in Lucid

2010-05-07 Thread Imre Gergely
I've managed to reproduce the last problem too. It only appears when
upgrading from 1ubuntu2 to 2ubuntu1 (from RC to release). After that
another update to -proposed fixes it. There's a small problem though as
far as I can tell. Consider the following:

- somebody upgraded to Lucid -rc
- installed clamav with freshclam. Default NotifyClamd is set to 'Yes'
- upgraded to Lucid release (clamav 1ubuntu2) after release day, NotifyClamd
gets invalidated (actually right now it's set to not notify clamd)
- now he upgrades to this package from -proposed, problem gets fixed but option
stays on 'No', so there will be no clamd notifications from now on.

I also checked the other scenario:

- somebody upgraded to Lucid -rc
- installed clamav with freshclam. Default NotifyClamd is set to 'Yes'. He sets
it to 'No', thus disabling the notification by choise
- upgraded to Lucid release (clamav 1ubuntu2) after release day, NotifyClamd
DOES NOT get invalidated (config.dat is still on 'false' and not 'path')
- now he upgrades to this package from -proposed, there's nothing to fix, but
the option is still on 'No' (which he had initially)

I conclude that: if 'path' is present at value it means that there was
'true' before, so it needs to be 'true' after upgrade also.

[Bug 571543] Re: Milter and Freshclam configurations buggy in Lucid

2010-05-07 Thread Imre Gergely
I've succesfully tested the first two problems, with clamav-milter and
the Bytecode option, and they do get resolved by upgrading to the new
package from -proposed.

The third problem (with freshclam), I could not reproduce. Tried
installing 1ubuntu2 packages, too, everything seemed fine. Values in
/var/cache/debconf/config.dat change to Yes/No according to the
selection, did not see anything else. Tried uninstalling clamav-daemon,
moving /etc/clamav/clamd.conf, the problem described did not appear.

Accepted into lucid-proposed, the package will build now and be
available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

[Bug 571543] Re: Milter and Freshclam configurations buggy in Lucid

2010-05-03 Thread Scott Kitterman
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: clamav

In the default configuration, logrotate for clamav-milter will cause
  incorrect permissions.

In the default configuration, the new bytecode anti-virus checks were
  inadvertently left disabled.
+
+ By default, clamav-daemon will restart every six hours to pick up new
+ signatures. There is an off by default feature for freshclam to notify
+ clamav-daemon when it's restarted to enable immediate use of new
+ signatures. This is supposed to be controlled by a debconf boolean, but
+ the path to the clamd config file is stored instead.

  TEST CASE:

For clamav-milter, with the current package installed, inspect the
contents of /etc/logrotate.d/clamav-milter and find that the create line
only includes the group permissions, not the user (clamav): "create 640
adm". Install the updated packages and check the file again and find
that it now includes user too: "create 640 clamav adm".

For the freshclam bytcode issue, inspect /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf and
note the absence of a Bytecode parameter. Install the updated packages
and see that freshclam.conf now contains "Bytecode true" (or false if
the user has set it to false previously).
+
+ Use dpkg-reconfigure clamav-freshclam and say change the "Should clamav
+ daemone be notified of updates" question to yes. Inspect
+ /var/cache/debconf/config.dat and find the paramete for clamav-
+ freshclam/NotifyClamd and note the value. It should say
+ "/etc/clamav/clamd.conf". Install the updated packages and then inspect
+ the same value again. It should say "true".
