As a workaround for Ubuntu 10.04, it is also possible to fix the mime
type for a single user by creating file
.local/share/mime/packages/kile.xml in the user's home directory.

The correct file can be extracted from the updated package
(kile_2.1.0~svn1112278beta4-2ubuntu1_i386.deb):

$ mkdir temp
$ dpkg -X kile_2.1.0~svn1112278beta4-2ubuntu1_i386.deb temp/
$ mkdir -p ~/.local/share/mime/packages
$ cp temp/usr/share/mime/packages/kile.xml ~/.local/share/mime/packages
$ update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime/
