[Bug 588822] Re: r8192se_pci driver occasionally drops connection, refuses to work with some networks
Alex Wauck, this bug report is being closed due to your last comment regarding this being fixed with an update. For future reference you can manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on the current status in the yellow line and then choosing a new status in the revealed drop down box. You can learn more about bug statuses at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status. Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 588822] Re: r8192se_pci driver occasionally drops connection, refuses to work with some networks
This bug no longer seems to affect my machine (at least as of 11.10). I don't know if the other people who commented here have had their problems resolved, but they don't appear to have said anything about it since August. I'd say it's safe to close this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588822 Title: r8192se_pci driver occasionally drops connection, refuses to work with some networks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/588822/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 588822] Re: r8192se_pci driver occasionally drops connection, refuses to work with some networks
Alex Wauck, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. [Bug 588822] Re: r8192se_pci driver occasionally drops connection, refuses to work with some networks
I received drivers from Realtek today that seem to fix this problem for me. Stable connection so far without having to resort to the 3.0 kernel. I posted the drivers here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10989459&postcount=135 Go to page 14 of that thread for context, but it seems that the only issue with those drivers is some kind of conflict with conky. Also, the makefile creates three driver modules; I edited it to only have it build the rtl8192se driver module (note the name change), and I disabled the r8192se_pci module before running any of the make commands.

The 3.0 release candidate 4 kernel worked for me (from Mainline Kernel Builds), as above. 9 hours so far, stable connection on Kubuntu 11.04, connecting to a WPA2-PSK AP. I've got the Realtek 8191SE chipset in a Toshiba Satellite A500. So this seems fixed for Oneiric.
