[Bug 591929] Re: [arrandale] Dell Latitude E4310 Dual Monitors freezing

2011-04-27 Thread bugbot
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

I have installed Lucid on E4310 and everything works fine. Now I'm
trying to connect dual FullHD Dell screens via a docking station's DVI
ports. First of all, if I boot the laptop while plugged into the dock,
it just freezes as outlined below. If I first boot it and then plug into
the dock, the following happens: in the System->Preferences->Monitor I
can see 3 panels available: laptop LCD and two Dell monitors(those are
off). However, when I try to disable e4310's panel and enable two Dell
monitors, all screens just go blank and system completely freezes up. No
SSH/Cltr+alt+bkspc/Cltr+alt+F1 possible. Also that is not a kernel panic
as no keyboard lights are blinking.

However everything works if I only enable the laptop's LCD and only one
of the Dell monitors. I Have also tried disabling the laptop panel prior
to enabling the second Dell monitor via lxrandr It allows me to
completely disable the built-in panel(leaving just one DVI Dell running)
but then as soon as I enable the second Dell, eveything just freezes the
  same way.

Also after hours of fighting with this, I discovered that the problem
doesn't happen if I boot the liveCD. I'm able to enable both DVI
  monitors on it just fine.

[Bug 591929] Re: [arrandale] Dell Latitude E4310 Dual Monitors freezing

2011-03-01 Thread durroon
I have this bus with ubuntu 10.10 amd64 on my dell e5510. installing the
current intel-drm-kernel solves the issue only half the way. I can then
activate the external VGA-monitor without crashing my system but its
physical resolution is not recognized correctly (max of 768 vertical,
physical is 1024).

[Bug 591929] Re: [arrandale] Dell Latitude E4310 Dual Monitors freezing

2010-11-20 Thread Trond Husoe
I can add that the freeze is no longer present when using 2.6.35-22, but then
another issue comes up: Screen blinking/flickering. It is only the laptop
screen that flickers/blinks as the external monitor is not blinking/flickering.
flickering/blinks = Screen goes black for a very short period of time (less
than a second) and comes back.

[Bug 591929] Re: [arrandale] Dell Latitude E4310 Dual Monitors freezing

2010-11-20 Thread Trond Husoe
I am experiencing the same as bonne I believe. Connecting a screen makes
the system freeze. Booting with external monitor and the computer stops.
No blinking keyboard though.

Output of uname -a
laptop 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 19:31:57 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux
Machine: Dell E4310 4gb ram, 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10

Do we at this point still have to run 2.6.35 kernel and compiling it?

2010-08-10 Thread Ramones Dude
Ok. It seems that you haven't really installed the 2.6.35 kernel. To install
it, you should do the following:
- get the 2.6.35 kernel sources at http://kernel.org/ ,
- then follow the instructions given on
http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_ubuntu

2010-08-10 Thread JPR
Hi, I did installed the 2.6.35 by uploading the package from the web then
running the installer but it doesn't fix the issue.
I should precise that I don't use a docking station but the VGA port straight
on the laptop.
How can I check that the new header is applied.
uname -a still given me Linux XXX-XXX 2.6.32-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul
28 05:14:15 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Any idea?

thanks in advance.

Looks like installing latest drm-intel kernel fixes this issue. So this
probably was fixed upstream.
Here's some steps to install that kernel:

2010-06-27 Thread Bonne Eggleston
I have a similar problem where the system will completely freeze when I plug a
second monitor in. No dock in use in this case.
As soon as I plug in a screen to the RGB plug the system freezes, screen goes
blank and the caps lock light starts to flash.
I recall testing this on a live CD before installation and it worked, but I
think the live CD I used for that test was 9.04. I currently have 10.04
installed.
