[Bug 596565] Re: ThinkPad Edge regularly freezes when plugged into mains

2013-09-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
anna_vt, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily kernel
folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 596565] Re: ThinkPad Edge regularly freezes when plugged into mains

2012-05-08 Thread Tim Bader
i am experiencing the same problem since two years to this day on my edge 13
(amd). no difference between 10.04 and 12.04. (all 64 bit)
i am currently using kernel 3.2.0-24-generic. so 3.0 kernel does not resolve
the problem.
system freezes randomly - sometimes several times an hour, sometimes not for
weeks.
the only regularity i found was that it seems only to occur if mains power is
connected and wifi is on simultaneously.

2011-11-09 Thread Thomas Lenoir
Seems that kernel 3.0 resolves this problem, I've switched to 11.10 and
then Linux Mint with kernel 3.0 and the crash never occured again
(uptime 15 days on Mint where before 3 days on 11.04 with kernel
2.6).

I did some test today. I disabled Speed Step and Powersaving Features in the
bios, but neither helped.
Then i disabled acpi in grub and the freezing disappeared.

Same symptoms here, with a ThinkPad Edge 13 (AMD) too, but it's running
11.04 64bit, kernel version is 2.6.38-8-generic. The bug occured 4 times
in 3 days, once was when waking from sleep.

[Bug 596565] Re: ThinkPad Edge regularly freezes when plugged into mains

2010-11-17 Thread Michael
Im running on the 2.6.35-999 kernel now using the to get the wireless working
you need to get and compile the driver,
rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0017.0705.2010.tar.gz
The freeze problem seems to be related to a bug in the ACPI Thinkpad driver and
an incomplete DSTS table, and ubuntu attempting to put the Edge in or out of a
powersaving/cpufreq mode, more information describing the various issues:

2010-11-17 Thread Michael
Forgot adding that the freeze problem seems to occur under load, even
with the correct DSTS table in a self compiled kernel. Although it
doesnt occur as frequent with 2.6.35.x, it does occur, and not
necessarily just while plugged into the mains i believe(?).

[Bug 596565] Re: ThinkPad Edge regularly freezes when plugged into mains

2010-06-22 Thread anna_vt
Tried the kernel
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/linux-image-2.6.35-999-generic_2.6.35-999.201006151505_i386.deb
as described in the link posted by Jeremy Foshee.
The wifi did not work with this kernel so I was unable to stay using it to see
if the crashing on mains power occurred (This is my only computer), however I
can say that it displayed a much longer life for the fully charged battery: 6
hours vs 2:30 hours under the current Lucid kernel - this is the same life that
it gives under windows 7.

2010-06-21 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi anna_vt,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
