[Bug 606928] Re: intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick
Pavol Klačanský, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 2012. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606928 Title: intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/606928/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 606928] Re: intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick
... and please skip above question. I solved the problem by replacing my access point (a Draytek Vigor 2800Vn) by another one (Netgear WNDR3700). Using self compiled drivers from http://linuxwireless.org and removing the /etc/modprobe.d/intel-5300-iwlagn-disable11n.conf, I now have a stabe 802.11n connection (both at 2.5 and 5GHz band). I managed to copy 4.3GB in roughly 8 minutes, so I'm happy! Apparently the Draytek 2800Vn is not exactly compatible with the Intel 5300 card. -- intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 606928] Re: intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick
Hi, @Kwinz: Thanks for the very detailed analysis & solution. For some reason it doesn't work here. I've followed the guidelines and downloaded from linuxwireless.org (compat-wireless-2.6.tar.bz2 which contained compat-wireless-2010-10-23), 'make', 'sudo make unload' and 'sudo make install'. The disable-file in /etc/modprobe.d is removed. I do have connection - but roughly 750KB/sec instead of the 2.5Mb/sec with the out-of-the-box driver in wireless g-mode. That's more than minor performance degredation... iwconfig reports IEEE 802.11abgn - so that seems fine. Connection information reports a speed of 270Mb/s, so the thing *is* in wireless mode. How do I debug & solve this? Apparently this seems to be solveable... Installation is a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 install on a Dell XPS M1530 with an Intel 5300 wireless card. Note that I did *not* install linux-backports-modules-wireless-2.6.35-22-generic, as was suggested earlier. Would that help? I'm new (1 week...) with Ubuntu (Linux desktop in general) but reasonable experience with Debian Linux on a server. -- intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 606928] Re: intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick
I reported this upstream http://bugzilla.intellinuxwireless.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2260. I then I had a *lengthy* discussion on #linux-wireless on IRC. To summ it up for you: 1.) It works if you build from lastet souce (see http://linuxwireless.org/) and then remove /etc/modprobe.d/intel-5300-iwlagn-disable11n.conf 2.) There seems to be a bug in the lastest source so do NOT use the driver-select script. 3.) The driver might still have some minor performance degradations compared to 10.04. I hope this information helps you. :) ** Bug watch added: bugzilla.intellinuxwireless.org/ #2260 http://bugzilla.intellinuxwireless.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2260 -- intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Speed issues might be related to bug #630748 since the iwlagn module is used. You could try the workaround mentioned in the comments there. -- intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 606928] Re: intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick
NOT fixed yet. I just noticed a regression: connection is LIMITED TO 802.11g SPEEDS. "iwconfig" reports "Bit Rate" is 54Mb/s and not 300Mb/s as with Ubuntu 10.04. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => Confirmed -- intel 5300 abgn not work on maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/606928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
