I just want to confirm that version 2010.12.09-1 for Debian unstable fixed the problems I was experiencing. I think that a separate PPA would be very useful for youtube-dl. As you said, this package requires tweaking too often; this makes it very difficult to include it in conventional repos consistently. And it is fixed again in Debian unstable. Version 2010.12.09-1 in the
Debian repository fixes this problem.
Unfortunately, I can't upload a fix to Ubuntu for the packages that I
maintain in Debian.
If I could, then things would be much smoother, as I usually upload a
new package in one or two days of an upstream new release (and, in
fact, I am closely following upstream, also proposing some patches and
so on).
Of course, given the volatile nature of youtube-dl, some measures to
handle the frequent fixes should be taken. In the mean time, I may
offer one package in a PPA, if that's desired.

I don't know what version is being used in Debian, but I'm running 10.10 and this bug (or a similar one) is recurring... I remember this was fixed back in July for 10.10 and that it had not been merged with 10.04 yet, but I'm having a similar problem again. Hi there. I can't even remember the version that comes with lucid (and the bug report apparently doesn't contain the version of the package). Anyway, my recommended answer in this case is to just go grab the versions that I upload to Debian sid, as they are usually released only two or three days at most after upstream releases something and it is not unusual for me to include some patches that may happen to be in future versions. That being said, I don't know which procedures I should follow to sync my packages in Debian with the ones in Ubuntu. If anybody could educate me, that would be great, as I have some other packages that are in need of a refresh. Failing all that, I can try to keep an uploaded version of the packages on my PPA, if that's OK with you guys. Just one silly question: Why is the changelog listed in comment #4 exactly like the one that I uploaded to Debian, with all comments and even the date, time and timezone of my own, but with my name nowhere in that changelog? Am I missing something? While the program is in the Public Domain my packaging isn't.
