[Bug 639852] Re: Linaro Daily build 20100915 does not boot on Beagle XM A2 boards

2011-01-24 Thread Alexander Sack
did this go into the linaro-m package? if so we should mark it fixed
released ... even if it went into 0.4.1 fix released would be approtiate
for this ubuntu bug.

[Bug 639852] Re: Linaro Daily build 20100915 does not boot on Beagle XM A2 boards

2010-09-16 Thread Torez Smith
The resolution here was a problem both in the daily builds and with the
linaro-media-create tool.

The media create tool was looking to pull the x-loader file (aka MLO
file) along with the boot loader file (u-boot.bin file) from the /boot
directory on the rootfs partition. The media create tool was expecting
to pull those files onto the boot partition as it was creating such a
partition. But, the files were not in the expected places and therefore
did not get moved over to the boot partition

As the execution of the media create tool continued, no detection was
made to alert the users the x-loader and boot loaders were not present.
So the user continues to boot with the newly created sd card and was
therefore not able to boot.

One aspect of this problem has been fixed but the second aspect needs to
be addressed (see bug #639862 linaro-media-create tool fails silently
)

This bug can be closed as the 20100916-0 Linaro daily build has the
appropriate changes to linaro-media-create tool and the headless tar
ball now contain the MLO and u-boot.bin files, and, a method to extract
those from the tar ball and properly place onto the boot partition.

[Bug 639852] Re: Linaro Daily build 20100915 does not boot on Beagle XM A2 boards

2010-09-16 Thread Steve Langasek
The fix was in linaro-image-tools + linaro-seeds; marking the bug
appropriately.

The silent-failure issue can be tracked separately under bug #639862.
