Hey Nathan, Thanks for your interest in Ubuntu. Thanks for testing maverick during its development period. Unfortunately it looks like this bug report didn't get attention during the maverick development period. But I see there's not been more comments on the bug since the release, which makes me wonder if this is still an issue for you? If you've not seen this issue since maverick's release yourself, it may have been solved by kernel or X or other updates that occurred late in the release; if so, would you mind please closing the bug for us? ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg On my favourite (and only) little computer, a Dell Latitude C400, at boot up the Ubuntu splash screen flashes then ends with an unresponsive blank screen, the CPU heats up and the fan starts racing. This started after an upgrade from Lubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 and continued after a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10. Out of frustration, I attempted the following fix that I was using in 10.04 for a similar problem with the computer locking up and getting hot, but only when the lid was closed. With the xorg file edit, the splash screen flashes a bit, but settles down to a fully functioning system. I haven't tested closing the lid yet. To summarise: Had similar issues[1] when closing the screen with v10.04. Now after a fresh install and all updates (as of 4/11/2010), the splash screen flashes, goes blank, locks up and gets hot. Edited xorg.conf[2], everything works until I close the screen, then it goes blank, locks up and gets hot. Saw that in similar cases, the output of lspci -v and lspci -vn were requested so I have attached them here.
