[Bug 68720] Re: Kernel panic with live CD on Thinkpad 600e

2007-08-13 Thread goofy66
FIXED in 7.04, used alternate CD, install went very well.

Sound still broken ( but I think the same module param magic will work)

Also booted fine from updated kernel ( after apt-get upgrade)

suspend/resume also working fine.

thanks!

2007-08-09 Thread jacek55
It works with ubuntu 7.04 alternate i386.

EISA messages are there in dmesg, so EISA isn't the reason of the
problem.

Conclusion : I have no more the problem, but ubuntu has.

[Bug 68720] Re: Kernel panic with live CD on Thinkpad 600e

2007-08-04 Thread jacek55
Hi,

I have the same problem with thinkpad 600X with 192M of memory.

My whole context is
   thinkpad 600X
   thinkpad T30
   ubuntu i386 7.04 Desktop
   kubuntu i386 7.04 Desktop
   mandriva 2007.1 One Free KDE

I can install three CD on T30
I can install mandriva on both laptops

Launch of kubuntu stops just after
   loading initrd.gz .
   (clear screen)
   invalid compressed format (err=2)
   -- System halted

Launch of ubuntu goes more and says :
   ...
[44 ...174] RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
   [45 ] invalid compressed format (err=1)
VFS: Cannot open root device NULL or
Please append a correct root= boot option
[45 ...190] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on
unknown-block(104,1)
   [45 ...282]

(note : the laptop having a faulty screen I cannot give the numbers at
head of messages :-( )

There are a difference at launch between mandriva and ubuntu.

ubuntu on 600X gives messages :

  [43 ...202] EISA: Probing bus 0 at eisa.0
[43 ...284] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1
[43 ...367] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 4 (note : there aren't
slots 2 and 3)
  [43 ...457] EISA: Detected 0 cards.

dmesg on T30 with ubuntu gives :

  [ 29.630209] NET: Registered protocol family 16
  [ 29.630344] EISA bus registered
[ 29.630351] ACPI: bus type pci registered

  [ 30.887450] EISA: Probing bus 0 at eisa.0
[ 30.887460] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1
[ 30.887464] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 2
[ 30.887467] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 3
[ 30.887470] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 4
[ 30.887473] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 5
[ 30.887475] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 6
[ 30.887478] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 7
[ 30.887481] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 8
  [ 30.887483] EISA: Detected 0 cards.
  ...

There are no EISA messages at mandriva's launch

Is it possible to launch (k)ubuntu without EISA probing ?

Thanks for your attention

Jacek

[Bug 68720] Re: Kernel panic with live CD on Thinkpad 600e

2006-11-06 Thread goofy66
Same problem confirmed on 600e however ubuntu-server 2.6.17 kernel works
fine to boot( sound/apm/acpi/suspend and other problems exist ).

I Used the server cd to install, and then apt-get kubuntu-desktop.

Got the sound to work using regular module param magic found on google.

But now, I cannot suspend, well suspend works, but resume crashes box
(auto-reboot).

I tried compiling older kernel (2.6.12.6) but this kernel will not boot
( same problem as described above. )

Anyone knows what is different in server kernels?

This 600E as run an old debian system ( don't know which..) and fedora 3
for a while using 2.6.9 or 2.6.10 kernels.

Hi all,

I am not sure how Ubuntu's bug reporting system works but the bug I posted
states that it is unconfirmed. I recieved the email below from another user
with the same issue. Thanks for your help.

Can verify this on Thinkpad 600E, Pentium II, 196 MB RAM. Memtest86+
passes. Detailed message is:

[33.046765] invalid compressed format (err=2)
[33.052965] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mound root fs on
unknown-block(1,0)
