[Bug 73049] Re: Can't see available networks
sorry about the multiple posts. (hopefully this is my last one) thought you should know that i fixed my second problem. edited the file below using the command: sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces replaced everything in the file with this: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet dhcp auto eth2 iface eth2 inet dhcp auto ath0 iface ath0 inet dhcp auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp >this fixed the problem with connecting, but the bug where it does not display the networks is still there. I hope feisty fixes this. -Andrew -- Can't see available networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73049] Re: Can't see available networks
Sometime after my observation that network-manager runs non-root, there was an update that made it run with gksudo again. However, this still didn't solve the problem, as of the last time I was able to test it. I have another laptop with feisty but haven't been able to test the bug there (need multiple ESSIDs present for any meaningful testing). FWIW, I've seen this with both the ipw2100 and ipw2200 drivers. -- Can't see available networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73049] Re: Can't see available networks
I am now having a new problem. Previously mine was connecting ok. now it will either connect to the router, but cannot access the internet, or will not connect at all. I know the router is fine, because I am on the EDGY live CD right now typing this through the wireless network. But once i go to my installed system it will not work. Network admin seems to keep having various problems and even "losing" it. -- Can't see available networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73049] Re: Can't see available networks
I checked, and it does not appear that i have network manager installed. I think it is network-admin. -- Can't see available networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In Edgy, network-manager won't connect to the latest ESSID, until I type as root # iwconfig eth1 essid any After that, it joins the wifi network. [Bug 73049] Re: Can't see available networks
I have also had this problem with EDGY. Also, my wireless is not configured correctly in edgy when installed from CD. Works ok, when upgraded from internet, but still can't see other wireless networks. Also my dad can't seem to get modems to work on edgy. Dapper works fine with both. I am convinced the edgy network-manager has many problems. >this "I've noticed that network-admin now runs as non-root." sounds like it could be the problem for the scanning. from what I've heard it may still not be working in feisty beta. I hope they fix it by the time feisty is released. -- Can't see available networks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73049] Re: Can't see available networks
I've noticed that network-admin now runs as non-root. According to the man page for iwlist: "Triggering scanning is a privileged operation (root only) and normal users can only read left-over scan results. By default, the way scanning is done (the scope of the scan) will be impacted by the current setting of the driver." So it sounds like it is impossible for network-admin running non-root to scan for wireless networks. It would have to respawn with gksu or something like that if scanning is requested by the user. perhaps there needs to be a button to do this (Scan for wireless networks). -- Can't see available networks https://launchpad.net/bugs/73049 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73049] Re: Can't see available networks
I've had the same problem since upgrading to Edgy: The list of available wireless networks (ESSID) is always empty, or only contains the network you are connected to. No relevant messages appear to show up in /var/log/syslog. Running network-admin from the shell doesn't produce any mesages either.
