[Bug 738148] Re: hub 8-0:1.0: over-current change on port 1

2011-03-20 Thread Fabio Marconi
Hello
Before send this report to the developers we have to test the latest released
kernel, click on the following links in this exact order:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.38-rc8-natty/linux-
headers-2.6.38-020638rc8_2.6.38-020638rc8.201103081151_all.deb

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.38-rc8-natty/linux-
headers-2.6.38-020638rc8-generic_2.6.38-020638rc8.201103081151_amd64.deb

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.38-rc8-natty/linux-
image-2.6.38-020638rc8-generic_2.6.38-020638rc8.201103081151_amd64.deb

If, the system is not working well after installation, you can easily remove it
from synaptic.
To do this, press left shift during boot and from the grub window select to
boot the 2.6.35 kernel, if the over-current error is present again in the new
kernel, attach here, using buton below, the files:
/var/log/kern.log
/var/log/dmesg
Thanks
Fabio

I don't know what does that means, but my dmesg is FULL of those!
Please see the following post on ubuntuforums:

  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1691226

I don't know if it helps, but there is a malfunctioning USB port on my
laptop. Plugging an optical mouse into it, the port gives current to the mouse
but the mouse does not work. In fact, the mouse has some lights which blink
when it is plugged into the malfunctioning port and also the mouse pointer does
not moves on the screen when the mouse is moved on my mouse pad.
On the other hand, when plugging the mouse into a functioning USB port, the
lights do not blink any more (they just blink when the mouse is moved on my
mouse pad) and moving the mouse on my mouse-pad makes the mouse pointer
regularly move on the screen.

In case of inserting a USB Flash drive into the malfunctioning port I can get
the following error message:
Error mounting: mount: /dev/sdc1: can't read superblock

or even no error message. In this last case, the flash memory can be not
mounted at all or mounted for a while and then unmounted as when
suddenly unplugged. Of course, the flesh memory works perfectly when
plugging it into other usb ports of the same laptop.

  Any suggestion, please?
  Thanks.

  Manolo

[Bug 738148] Re: hub 8-0:1.0: over-current change on port 1

2011-03-19 Thread manolo
Fabio, I don't know why it happens this way.
However, it is not the first time that I experiment this kind of problem after
UPGRADING (I had upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10).
In fact, it also happened when upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10: the fact that
almost all of the system had been upgraded except the kernel caused this Xorg
problem described here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skuog28ZnoM

Now, I just installed the linux package from Synaptic. I will write
back after restarting the system. See you in a while... hope the system
will restart properly!
