[Bug 756611] Re: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop
Rasty, Indeed you are right. I tried the weak you mentioned and it works, however I noticed that the icon only shows on 1 display when using 2 monitors. Perhaps this is why they have decided to 'filter' the fully functional apps only until work gets around to modifying all the apps to support the Unity desktop. [Bug 756611] Re: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop
Hello guys. It seems to be system tray filtering of Unity. Check this (focus on dconf-editor): http://www.tuxgarage.com/2011/04/tweak-unity-to-better-suit-your-needs.html Btw it works for me and I can see the icon now. [Bug 756611] Re: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop
Lonnie, I still use Autokey in 11.04 default Unity desktop because it's still running in the background and functions normally. The hotkey Ctrl-K still brings up the Autokey window and all the hotkeys I have defined still function ok. The only downside is that the tray icon/applet is missing. Also, just logging out and back in again still leaves autokey running in the background. You either need to reboot or kill the autokey process before you log off, using either 'killall autokey-qt' or 'killall autokey-gtk' depending on which one you launched in the first place. Give 11.04 a go. I reckon it's the best version yet. And I've really got the hang of Unity which seems so much more efficient with all the keyboard shortcuts. I am the envy of my work friends who use W7 and who all suffer from appalling LAN and USB transfer speeds - Ubuntu kills 7. [Bug 756611] Re: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop
For parcellite, this command made the tray icon come back in Unity: gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']" (then you have to logout and back in) However, AutoKey's tray icon still doesn't appear, after this setting change. I have AutoKey set to load upon login, and I get the following error when it loads: "AutoKey is already running as pid: 1762" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756611 Title: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 756611] Re: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop
AutoKey is must-have productivity application. It is a pain for me to live without it here in 11.04. At work, we have hundreds of Ubuntu workstations running AutoKey, and therefore we are still running 10.10. Another app we use at work is parcellite; it too is not accessible in Unity: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/parcellite/+bug/753197 My Uncle loves to use the GNOME Weather Panel Applet. Fortunately, that application has been reworked for Unity, and can now be installed: sudo apt-get install indicator-weather Will the autokey package remain "autokey", or will there be a "unity split" called "indicator-autokey"? In 11.04, upon login, you have the option (at the bottom) to select "Ubuntu Classic" to use GNOME 2. AutoKey works fine if you use GNOME2. I guess a fix would be to put the Unity Code into the "autokey" package, and upon launch have it detect the desktop-type, and then proceed accordingly with either the Gnome applet or Unity Indicator respectively. I sure hope this gets done soon, I know my company won't consider upgrading to 11.04 without AutoKey functioning correctly. I wonder if someone is in the process of creating a universal "GNOME Applet" to "Unity Indicator" adapter (so that all the applications trying to launch GNOME 2 Panel Applets can be automatically translated into a Unity Indicator); perhaps that's too humongous a task? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756611 Title: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 756611] Re: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop
After posting this bug I realised with more testing of the 11.04 Unity desktop I realised that there were more applications which when run in 10.10 or even 11.04 Classic have panel/tray icons but are missing in the Unity interface, such as Remmina. This got me thinking that with the possibility of many Gnome apps that use tray icons may be in the process of being re-worked for Unity. So here's my question. Is work being done to ensure apps that use a docked tray icon such as Remmina and Autokey display in the new Unity panel? ** Changed in: autokey (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Converted to question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autokey/+question/153151 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/756611 Title: autokey fails to show tray icon in when launched in unity 11.04 desktop -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
