[Bug 780128] Re: static audio echo when playing files with vlc
SAME PROBLEM !!! I downgraded back to 11.04 and there is no problem with the audio... however...when I tried 11.10 and the new 12.04...the problem was quite evident... the audio would lag or be doubled...almost a slight delay happening... much too annoying to watch any video...I tried all video players available... same audio problem would occur... anyone come up with a viable solution ? Would sure appreciate help here...as I would much like to upgrade... cheers... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780128 Title: static audio echo when playing files with vlc To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vlc/+bug/780128/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Cannot reproduce anymore. I opened VLC, Preferences, changed Audio Output module from ALSA to Pulseaudio, and sound files play just fine. I have 1.1.9-1ubuntu1.3. [Bug 780128] Re: static audio echo when playing files with vlc
Hi, I have this problem, too. In short, selecting PulseAudio from the Audio Preferences gives me scratchy, static-y, awful sound. Selecting Alsa gives me normal sound. I tried Rémi's commands, and VLC still sounded awful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780128 Title: static audio echo when playing files with vlc -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 780128] Re: static audio echo when playing files with vlc
What *I* see is most likely a kernel driver bug. I don't know if we're seeing the same bug or two different bugs with similar symptoms though. Could you try this? Add this line to /etc/pulse/daemon.conf (you will need sudo): default-sample-rate = 48000 Save the file, and restart PulseAudio: # pulseaudio -k Then run VLC as: # vlc --aout-rate 48000 ** Changed in: vlc (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780128 Title: static audio echo when playing files with vlc -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 780128] Re: static audio echo when playing files with vlc
Hmm, I hit a possibly similar problem today, after kernel upgrade. I managed to work around it this way: 1/ remove PulseAudio 2/ start VLC (using ALSA) as: vlc --aout-rate 48000 I guess PulseAudio could be kept if I could convince it to output at 48kHz instead of 44.1kHz.

[Bug 780128] Re: static audio echo when playing files with vlc
I am similarly affected. VLC after default install is completely unusable due to the audio distortion and echo effect. My setup is much the same as 'whoop': uname -a Linux solar 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:24 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux However, after setting the audio default to 'ALSA audio output' (In Tools - Preferences, under Audio, Output module) it sounds fine.
A little more information: Switching to 'Alsa audio' does indeed fix the audio problem, but only until I closed and restarted VLC. After that I hear nothing at all. Switching back to 'Default' or 'Pulseaudio audio output' brings things back to normal upon the next re-start of VLC. I'm affected by it as well, ever since i upgraded from 10.10. Sometimes it just goes away when i simply open then close the Ubuntu sound preferences dialog.
